The Saxon Wine Trail takes you right into the heart of Saxony’s lush vineyards. It passes picturesque villages, the dark blue Elbe River, fairytale castles and magnificent cities like Pirna, Dresden and Meißen. Lots of idyllic wineries lie en route where you can try delicious food and wonderful wine.

Germany’s third smallest official wine-growing region has a lot to experience and explore. The expression ‘small but mighty’ is definitely true here. The region’s 800-year viticulture tradition has shaped the landscape and culture. There are about 60 grape varieties, some of which you will find and taste along the way.

The Saxon Wine Trail stretches for 100 kilometres (62 mi) along the Saxon Wine Route from the town of Pirna to Diesbar-Seußlitz. The stage lengths vary from 10 to 25 kilometres (6 to 15.5 mi) so the route is ideal for six days of hiking. You cal also divide the stages into fewer days of walk your favourite stage as a day Tour. I definitely recommend taking your time here as there is so much to see, visit, admir and taste. This is a true enjoyment and cultural hike.

I hope you have lots of fun wonderful time in the Elbland. Here is a little taste of what to expect: .

Off to a new hike 🥾💚

This time it will be a real pleasure and culture hike. Because I'll take you on the Saxon Wine Trail. Together with Matthias, I started early in the morning in the historic old town of Pirna.

From the other side of the Elbe, where the hiking trail officially starts, we have another

We slept in the beautiful castle hotel and enjoyed a delicious dinner there yesterday. Also this morning a rich buffet awaits us and after all the delicacies we can only start walking very slowly 😅

Today's stage first leads through a small, idyllic piece of forest. Then it goes past the villas of Dresden

  4. Unfortunately Matthias has to go back to Mainz today and at first I'm a little sad, because our days together on the Saxon Wine Hiking Trail were really nice 😊

The first part in the forest is really good for me to take a deep breath and clear my head. I always succeed best in the forest 💚🌳 And so my

I slept in the middle of the vineyards and this morning I am also walking through the middle of the vineyards. 🍇🥾 Thick green and red grapes are still hanging on the vines and accompany me to the observatory. From here I have a wonderful view of Radebeul and Wackerbarth Castle.

    This is really fabulous

Today's stage is not long but all the more beautiful 😍 First it goes through wide field landscapes in which pure country idyll hovers in the air 😉But from here I can already see the high hills of the Spaar Mountains, which I will hike through today 🏔

To do this, it first goes uphill through the dense

  7. As is well known, the best comes at the end 😉 And the Saxon Wine Trail also has what I consider to be the absolutely most beautiful stage for the end of my hike. To say goodbye to Meißen, I first enjoy a picturesque view of the city on the Elbe.

With a clear blue sky it goes up into the vineyards. I
