Good coffee and cycling go hand in hand. The Netherlands has many cycling cafes that understand this well. I'm a big fan of a good cup of coffee before a long ride, as well as during and after too. That extra dose of caffeine always gives me that extra push.
Cycling cafes are also places where you can find the best routes in a region as local cyclists gather here and share their favourite rides. I asked the nicest cycling cafes in the country what their favourite routes are to put together the best road, gravel and mountain bike routes in the Netherlands. This Collection was their answer.
The 22 Tours in this Collection vary considerably in length. There are shorter off-road routes, road rides with local gems and even a fantastic 200-kilometre (124 mi) gravel Tour in the Achterhoek in the east of the Netherlands. It’s definitely worthwhile spending a spare weekend in a cafe that’s a bit further away than around the corner from your home. Strap your bike to your bike rack or take it on the train and get ready for an adventure in your own country. You’re guaranteed to meet cool, new people – and they’ll all love bikes and coffee, just like you.
Rapha is the club of clubs worldwide when you talk about cycling and in the Nine Streets in Amsterdam you will find their Dutch Clubhouse. And don't think that this is just shopping. Club rides depart from the Clubhouse several times a week and there are events throughout the year, such as lectures and…
At Maats (komoot.nl/user/maatscc) you will not only find delicious coffee from the Amsterdam coffee roaster Stooker, but also a cool range of cycling clothing and accessories. Maats founders Joost and Rob found the perfect location for their shop in the Van Woustraat in the Amsterdam Pijp, right on the…
Get recommendations on the best single tracks, peaks, & plenty of other exciting outdoor places.
In addition to cycling on the road, Maats also love cycling on unpaved paths. It is a hefty ride from Amsterdam, because the best gravel paths in the region can be found around Hilversum and in Het Gooi. But that is of course no problem for a fanatic cyclist.
The Gravel Special is Maats' favorite gravel…
A beautiful historic center, famous museums, the beach around the corner and one of the nicest bicycle cafes in the country – Haarlem has it all. The Van Deventer cyclescafé is the home base for VISKERcycles (komoot.nl/user/viskercycles). Besides the store in Haarlem, you can now also visit the S-perience…
At VISKER they not only understand racing bikes, you have also come to the right place for off-road. When events were temporarily not possible at the height of the corona crisis, VISKER provided a fantastic gravel route that could be ridden solo. Ohsolomio was born!
In the tough gravel ride of more than…
Service Koers founders Stefan and Maurice rolled almost directly from the peloton into the Service Koers (komoot.nl/user/servicekoers) – where they share their passion for cycling with everyone. After many years of racing in the international world top, the youth comrades set up the shop as a real community…
In addition to a group of road riders, a group of graveleurs also leaves every Thursday evening. The ride of 50 kilometers is tough, but the hard work is rewarded right from the start with beautiful surroundings. From Heiloo you can drive straight into the Heilooërbos in the direction of Alkmaar. There…
Like a book, a prologue is a short introduction. The part is often ridden on the first day of a stage race and is a short time trial of often no more than 7 kilometers.
When you hear the term prologue, you might immediately think of the podcast about the Tour de France. And of course delicious regional…
The Rotterdam Hofbogen have undergone a true transformation in recent years. It has turned from a run-down area into a true hotspot, and with COPPI and Parallel Handbuilt and I R I S just around the corner, it has become a real cycling hotspot.

Those looking for a real challenge, plus a very nice ride in the Randstad, visit not one but two of the cycling cafes in this Collection in one Tour. In the summer of 2020 Bas van COPPI made this beautiful century ride of 100 miles with gravel.
That is 160 kilometers and that is quite long! That's why…
Kamu Bikes & Coffee in Breda is a combination of a modern bicycle shop and a coffee bar in one. Kamu is the Finnish word for buddy or comrade and it really feels like a living room where cyclists and coffee lovers meet. More importantly, Kamu has a gold mine of beautiful routes, thanks to their own route…
Whoever visits cycling café De Cyklist (komoot.nl/user/cyklist) for the first time will be amazed. Owners Rutger and Madelon van der Zanden have managed to obtain the most special relics over the years. The top floor of the Wielercafé on the NRE site in Eindhoven has even been completely furnished as…
Anyone who thinks that only racing cyclists are welcome at De Cyklist is wrong. Mountain bikers also like to sit here for a delicious cup of Il Magistrale Cycling Coffee. If you don't have a mountain bike (with you), then you just rent it from the neighbors?
From De Cyklist you can cycle out of the city…
Gravel fans are also at the right place at De Cyklist. Brabant is rich in beautiful sand and gravel paths along hidden gems and through beautiful nature reserves. From De Cyklist there are many options regarding gravel routes, but the Gravelicious is the most beautiful.
You cycle from De Cyklist Eindhoven…
Whether you're a pro team cyclist, amateur or just getting into cycling, we all have one thing in common: everyone loves a nice cup of coffee before cycling. That is exactly what they have understood well at Fixed Gear Coffee (komoot.nl/user/fixedgearcoffee).
Both in the Maastricht branch and at the bottom…
Fan of mountain biking? Then you are in the right place in Zeddam at Berc Bike (as a cyclist or gravel rider, by the way!). Twente natives Willem van Rooden and Bertil Jager found the perfect location in the Montferland for their new cycling café and bike studio.
The Montferland is fantastic for a challenging…
Wielercafé Doetinchem: 'Paris is still far' is the hobby of owner Gerrit Geuvers that got out of hand - originated from the love for the sport, it is a gathering place for cycling enthusiasts and the starting point for many beautiful rides. From the café in the Achterhoek you can go in all directions…
What do you do when you're all over it at work? For me a bike ride helps very well and Mark thought exactly the same about it. His passion for cycling grew with every ride and even became so great that a homemade racing bike and cycling café was born: Vanmark was born.
Vanmark in Joure is the first cycling…
Mark's other favorite route is the Rondje Tijnje, rich in beautiful waters and green nature. From Joure you cycle to Oudehaske, which is beautifully situated on the recreational lake It Nanewiid.
The cycle path runs right along the bank and then takes you directly to the next water called De Heide. Around…
Mark Boersema already had his own successful bicycle coffee brand and now also a beautiful cycling cafe in Zuidlaren. At Klasbak (komoot.nl/user/1719215824353) they have the best banana bread and a suitable coffee for every taste. Everyone is welcome; on the racing bike, the touring bike and also the…
