Don't let the weather stop you! Win with Five Ten! – Freiburg & the Black Forest

Mountain Biking Collection by adidas Five Ten

In Freiburg and surprised by bad weather? No problem. In and around the city there are fantastic destinations that are fun even when the skies are grey. That's a promise. Exploring Freiburg's city centre with its narrow alleyways is practically a must, but there’s also plenty to experience outside the old town. Enjoy the panoramic view from the Schlossberg hill, roll along the banks of the Dreisam or take a break at one of the lakes around this gorgeous city.

Prefer to get out of the city? We've picked out a few adventures in the immediate vicinity that you can reach either by bike or public transport, depending on how rainproof you are! And if it really does rain cats and dogs, then simply take a dip in one of the spa baths in the southern Black Forest or enjoy a typical Baden meal in a cosy inn. Bliss.

One thing is certain: the Black Forest has a very special, mystical atmosphere on grey, rainy days. Thick clouds roll over the mountains and mist wafts through the dark forests. And no matter what conditions await you, no matter what terrain, with the adidas Five Ten Trailcross mountain biking shoe, you can explore even the most remote forests all year round. Its waterproof, breathable GORE-TEX membrane keeps your feet pleasantly dry even in rain and snow. The non-slip rubber outsole guarantees optimum grip on the pedals and its flexible neoprene upper keeps mud and small stones out. So nothing, not even the worst weather, will stop you from your bike ride.

To motivate you even more, we're organising a competition for you:

- Grab a Highlight from the Collection or find another great destination and plan your own Tour in wet weather.
- Take a few photos during the Tour to capture the atmosphere and include the hashtag #brandofthebrave in the Tour title.
- Follow adidas Five Ten on komoot and tag us as a participant of the Tour.

We will raffle off two Five Ten Trailcross packages among all participants. Each package includes the Five Ten Trailcross GORE-TEX mountain bike shoe and a Five Ten TrailX long-sleeve. If, for any reason, these products are not available, the winners will instead receive a 250 euro voucher for the online shop at adidas.de.

    Schlossbergturm

    Mountain Biking Highlight

What a wonderful view! The 35-meter-high observation tower is on the Schlossberg, almost 200 meters above Freiburg. Well worth climbing the steps, the panoramic view is really beautiful. You look out over the old town of Freiburg, the surrounding mountains and into the Breisgau. The view is also special on a gray day when the clouds hang low over the mountains. Because then the Black Forest looks particularly mystical.

    Opfinger See

    Mountain Biking Highlight

The Opfinger See lies in the moss forest west of Freiburg. Easy to get to from Freiburg by bike, the “Opfinger” is always worth a trip. If you are already in the corner, then you should drive a little further to the neighboring town of Opfingen. My tip: a visit to the Gasthaus Blume. There you can feast your way through the Baden cuisine and try the various Black Forest tapas.

    Kybfelsen

    Mountain Biking Highlight

On the 810 meter high rock there was a castle in the twelfth century, but there is almost nothing left of it. Thanks to the view, a stop on the foothills of the Schauinsland is still worthwhile. In good weather you have a great view of Freiburg and Günterstal.

    Marktwurst auf dem Münsterplatz

    Mountain Biking Highlight

A visit to Freiburg is a must: a market sausage with mustard and onions on Münsterplatz! At Meier's Wurststand you can get the famous “long red” Monday to Saturday from 7.30 a.m. to 2.15 p.m. (on Saturdays even from 6 a.m.). Then something sweet? No problem: on market days (Tuesday to Saturday) you can treat yourself to a super creamy cheesecake at Stefan's. The stand is easy to spot with its yellow pavilion.

After eating you should rest ... or climb 335 steps. That's how many steps there are to the top platform of the Freiburg Minster. From above you have a wonderful view over the city. Even if visibility is not so good, it is worth climbing the tower to the bells and into the openwork tower spire.

    Badeparadies Schwarzwald

    Mountain Biking Highlight

Both action and relaxation await you in the Badeparadies Schwarzwald in Titisee. Let off steam in the spacious slide area or dream away on vacation in the palm oasis, including a cocktail at the pool bar. If you want a little more wellness, you can also book entry to the sauna world. A visit to the bathing paradise can also be combined with a stop at the famous Titisee, if you are looking for some outdoor exercise before having fun in the pool.

    Museums-Bergwerk Schauinsland

    Mountain Biking Highlight

Mining on the Schauinsland looks back on 800 years of history. The mine once offered secure work for many people around the Schauinsland. During a guided tour through the museum mine you will learn more about the history and you can at least feel a bit like a miner. Don't worry, you don't have to toil, but you can climb something. You can find more information about the individual tours here: schauinsland.de/museums-bergwerk

You can either take the cable car to the Schauinsland or earn the ascent of Freiburg's 1,284-meter-high mountain with your own calf power.

    Restaurant am Waldsee

    Mountain Biking Highlight

The tranquil forest lake is always worth a visit. A short bike ride from Freiburg city center is the lake at Möslepark, one of the oldest parks in the city of Freiburg. At the lake you will find the restaurant of the same name, where you can fortify yourself with Baden dishes or treat yourself to an extensive Sunday brunch.

Such a dense forest simply has a very special atmosphere in autumn or rainy weather, doesn't it? You can experience this particularly impressively on the Kandelhöhenweg from Freiburg towards St. Peter - Black Forest mysticism par excellence.

    Löwenstrauße in Bötzingen

    Bike Touring Highlight

Anyone who is out and about at the Kaiserstuhl can hardly avoid a visit to an ostrich. In the region there are numerous such bars with typical Baden food and of course local wines. If you're out and about in Bötzingen, you can stop off at Löwenstrauße, for example. In addition to the rather meat-heavy classics, the menu also includes vegetarian and vegan dishes. With your meal you can enjoy the wines of the organic winery Schaffner. A worthwhile stop on your bike ride over the Kaiserstuhl. You can find all information here: loewenstrausse.de

Nice bike path along the river through the middle of Freiburg and further into the Dreisamtal or to Umkirch. Thus the best and fastest connection in Freiburg between east and west!

    Blick ins Glottertal

    Mountain Biking Highlight

From this bench you have a wonderful view of the idyllic Glottertal. On one side of the valley, the foothills of the Kandel massif descend to the Glotter, on the other side the Roßkopf with its surrounding mountains delimits the valley in the Black Forest. The view of the valley is wonderful in every season, be it in snowy winter, in blooming spring, with an azure blue summer sky or in a foggy autumn atmosphere. You can explore the area in a much more fantastic way by bike.

    Langeckhütte

    Mountain Biking Highlight

The Langeckhütte is 780 meters above sea level at the intersection of Alter Kandelstrasse and Kranzkopfstrasse in the middle of the forest. It offers you protection from wind and weather if you are up here at the wrong time. But even on nice days it is a good place to take a break.

    Mundenhof

    Mountain Biking Highlight

Do you want to ride out of town for a bit? Then the Mundenhof west of Freiburg is a great destination. The 38 hectare animal enclosure is the largest in Baden-Württemberg. You can see domestic and farm animals from all over the world, from alpacas to dwarf goats. It's also worth it in bad weather, after all, the animals have thick fur. You can find all information here: mundenhof.de

    Seepark

    Mountain Biking Highlight

The Seepark is a green oasis in the Freiburg city area. Sand and gravel were still mined here until the 1970s. For the state horticultural show in 1986, the entire area was embellished and thus became a popular excursion destination. There is a lot to discover around the lake: you can climb the 15 meter high observation tower, stroll through the Japanese garden or simply take a break on the lake shore and watch the ducks.
