The Main-Tauber-Fränkischer Radachter is a cycle route that takes you through the Main and Tauber valleys. Here, you immerse yourself in the valleys’ beautiful nature as you cycle through quiet forests and fragrant meadows. Along the route, you encounter picturesque vineyards along the Main River and fairytale castles perched high above the valleys – an incredible sight. Pretty towns with charming half-timbered houses and historic village centres are the perfect places to explore along the way.

The cycle route consists of two loops, the Westring and the Ostring. The Westring, which is about 154 kilometres (95.6 mi) long, takes you from the town of Lauda-Königshofen to Buchen im Odenwald, Miltenberg, Wertheim and back to the starting point in four stages. The Ostring is about 217 kilometres (134.8 mi) long and also starts in Lauda-Königshofen. In seven stages, you ride from the town to Weikersheim, Ochsenfurt, Würzburg, Wertheim, and back to the starting point.

In this Collection, I'll show you how to ride the entire Main-Tauber-Franconian Radachter in the 11 stages. The Tour starts in Lauda-Königshofen, which has regional train connections from Würzburg, Crailsheim, Osterburken and Wertheim. From here, you cycle the Westring clockwise as it leads through the Tauber Valley and the Odenwald to the Main River. You ride along the Main Valley back to the Tauber and return to the starting point in Lauda. Next up, you cycle the Ostring anticlockwise and pedal through the Tauber Valley and trace the Gaubahn Cycle Path into the Main Valley. The loops of the River Main lead you back to the Tauber, which you follow to Lauda-Königshofen.

Except for the first day, the stages are short and easy. You can also combine some of them to cycle the entire route in fewer than 11 days. Alternatively, you could ride each loop separately. Regardless of how you approach this adventure, all of the stage towns have a good choice of accommodation and places to stop for a bite to eat. You’ll also find train stations at most of the stage destinations and elsewhere along the route. This makes it easy to cycle a part of the Tour or change your plans if the weather turns. The Radachter route follows some of the most beautiful bike paths in southern Germany such as the ‘Liebliches Taubertal’, the Main Cycle Path, the Sculpture Cycle Path and the Gaubahn Cycle Path. Each of these routes is a highlight in itself. Riding them together is an unforgettable experience.
