Berlin has long established itself as one of the coolest cities in the world. Hip bars and cafés, lots of forests and water, a motley assortment of people and opportunities — dit is typisch Berlin! At the same time, the capital is increasingly becoming a perfect metropolis for getting around on two wheels. So with that in mind, why not go sightseeing by bike?

Thanks to its excellent public transport network, you can reach every corner of Berlin on your bike. What could make it even more practical? Well, imagine if you could fold up your beloved bike in just a few seconds and hop on the train. Wouldn’t that be perfect? That's what British inventor Andrew Ritchie thought when he developed his first folding bike in the 1970s. Since then, his Brompton brand has become a real cult bike — and ‘cult’ is Berlin's middle name.

With this Collection, we take you on seven Tours between city and countryside that are ideal for a folding bike. Don’t own one yet? No problem! You can rent a Brompton in some of the stores we’ve outlined in this Collection. Whether you have your own or a rental, you can travel with a folding bike on all public transport free of charge – even on the BVG ferries.

When you hop off the bus or train, simply unfold your Brompton and ride off – you'll get that real tourist feeling on the city Tour, which takes you to Berlin's most famous landmarks such as the TV Tower, Ku'Damm, East Side Gallery and Potsdamer Platz. In the north of Berlin, you'll roll past extensive fields and through shady forests. Meanwhile, the south is wonderfully watery: on the loop around Berlin's largest lake, you can sample hearty smoked fish from local fishermen and ride your bike onto a ferry. The Tour around Potsdam and Werder, which takes you along the beautiful Havel river, will give you island vibes.

Keep riding, hop on the train and continue! Hop on, hop off is easily doable by bike with a Brompton. Fancy a little more? The two-part Tour from Erkner to Fürstenwald is just right. If 60 kilometres (37 mi) sounds too much for a folding bike then let Heinz Stücke tell you a story. He grabbed his Brompton and covered more than 200,000 kilometres (124,000 mi) on several continents.

Last but not least, Brompton is looking for the best folding bike routes (in Berlin) on komoot and Instagram. They’ll give great prizes for the best three routes submitted by 29th October 2021. So, if you’re on the road with a Brompton, create a komoot Tour yourself, follow Brompton Bicycle on komoot and invite us to your Tour. Upload your pictures on Instagram, follow brompton.de and tag your Tour with #yourbromptontour to take part in the competition.

Sightseeing on two wheels - hardly any other city is as perfect for this as Berlin. More and more car-free streets and pop-up bike paths let you explore the city center again and again. And if your bike is just as flexible as the capital itself, the most famous hot spots such as Alexanderplatz, Kurfürstendamm and Tiergarten are within walking distance.

Leaving the big city and everyday stress behind you, driving along wide fields and secluded ponds - sounds like a plan, doesn't it? And you don't even have to drive out of Berlin for hours. Grab your folding bike and hop on the S-Bahn to Ahrensfelde. When you get to the outskirts, you go straight out into the fields. The Havel meanders through northeast Germany for over 300 kilometers. On this tour you will follow it for a while on its way to the mouth of the Elbe. But not only pure Havel idyll is waiting for you: in the middle is the tranquil island of Werder, which attracts many Berliners to the tree blossom festival every year. Outside of this solemn week, you will be greeted with a lot of calm and serenity. Perfect for switching off!
