2021 family gravel bikepacking holiday

Every year my wife Lillie plans a biking vacation with our son Ben. In 2019, they went around Lake Constance. In 2020, they rode along the Aare from Solothurn to Bern. In 2021, I joined them for an ambitious journey: the Swiss Jura in off-road mode.To create our route, we were inspired by the Jura Bike route of SwitzerlandMobility. Friends of ours had done it on gravel bikes a few months before and had assured us that the route presented little or no technical difficulties.After studying the proposed stages, we chose to ride the section between Saint-Ursanne and Fleurier. It has almost no major roads, a must for us because Ben is 6 years old and we want to stay away from traffic with him.For this trip, we alternated between camping and staying in hotels. I rode my Scott Addict Gravel with Apidura bags. Ben had a mountain bike with his own panniers. Lillie rode an e-road bike with 650 wheels and gravel tires. An original set up that allowed her to carry all our camping gear and to pull Ben with a bungee cord when he was tired.Our trip lasted 6 days, with a prologue on the first day to reach our campsite near Saint-Ursanne and then daily stages between 30 and 45 kilometers. A distance perfectly adapted to our rhythm, marked by many stops for ice cream and some rough rides on steep slopes and singletracks.
