Vienna and its surroundings offer exploration-loving gravel bikers a variety of great touring options. From flat to hilly, fine gravel to flowing trails and beautiful back roads, the variety of Tours continues to amaze me even after years of exploring. In this Collection, I’ve put together 11 of my favourite gravel Tours that start from the centre and take you in all directions, giving you an idea of the beautiful landscapes around Vienna.
If you're in the mood for a lot of climbing, then you'll probably find the Tours in the Vienna Woods the most exciting. Here, you often follow signposted mountain bike routes, which are also ideal for gravel bikes. If you want to get an overview of the many routes, I can recommend the map from Wienerwald Tourismus (wienerwald.info/en/mountain-bike-trail-parks).
The Tours in the north and east of the city take you to the rather flat corners of the wine and industrial district, where you find a brilliant gravel area along the Danube, between fields and hills.
No matter which Tour you choose, you always find cosy places to stop for a bite to eat. In the north of the city, you can experience the wine culture in Heurigen taverns in the Danube metropolis. In the Vienna Woods, there are also down-to-earth refuges that serve as great refreshment stops.
All Tours start from an underground or S-Bahn station. Bicycles can be taken on S-Bahn trains any time and you can bring them on U-Bahn trains from 9 am to 3 pm and after 6.30 pm on weekdays. On weekends, you can travel any time.
The Tours presented here provide a good basis for discovering the region and invite you to explore new places and enjoy time out on your bike.
What is your favorite gravel Tour? I would love to hear about it in the comments!
The Lobau is part of the Donau-Auen National Park, which stretches from Vienna to the confluence of the March with the Danube. Thanks to the Lobau, Vienna is the only metropolis worldwide that has a national park in the urban area. You can combine the paths approved for cyclists into a wonderful gravel…

For a long time I paid little attention to the area southeast of Vienna. One reason for this was certainly that it is a bit of a hassle to leave the city in this direction. But once you've done that, you've reached a pretty ingenious gravel area that offers an incredible number of options. In this lap…

Are you ready for a day-long challenge? Then this tour is for you. It takes you to the Schöpfl, the highest point of the Vienna Woods, in a mix of gravel passages, easy trails and road sections - Anyroad at its best! First of all, this tour is more than recommendable, even in shortened form, so I have…

Uphill on gravel, downhill on asphalt is the motto of this round. This rather short tour, however, peppered with a few meters of altitude, combines very beautiful gravel climbs with equally beautiful descents. You can also shorten the tour on the Sophienalpe and shorten it by a good half - as a short…

This tour is actually a Viennese mountain bike classic, but you can also ride it well with a gravel bike. Basically, however, you should also like to be on the trail, as there and there it rumbles a little. The tour takes you over forest paths, easy trails and short asphalt sections through the Vienna…

As the name suggests, the Augustinerwald circuit leads through the Augustinerwald. It doesn't score so much with scenic highlights, but makes sense as a quick after-work tour and offers a lot of peace and quiet and idyllic forest. If you want to extend the round, there is still the ascent to the Sophienalpe…

Are you in the mood for a lot of vertical meters and some technical sections? This is what you get on this round. The route around the Lainzer Tiergarten is combined here with part of the Troppberg circuit, making it a varied and challenging gravel circuit.
The starting point is right in front of Sch…

The Weinviertel in the north of Vienna is always worth a trip and offers you an incredible number of opportunities for relaxed gravel tours. You will find roads with little traffic, many gravel and forest paths and also one or the other trail. On this round you will get a good impression of this diversity…

Once around Vienna on all kinds of routes - Anyroad. You start on the Wienfluss cycle path and after a short warm-up phase turn into the 13th district. Here things are going pretty briskly on asphalt. The short stretch to reach the Liesingbach Cycle Path is not very quiet in terms of traffic, but for…

This round around the Bisamberg takes you over a mix of different paths and offers two particularly beautiful, easy trail sections. On the Danube Island you roll relaxed towards the north end and then switch to the north bank. After a few kilometers you branch off onto the bike path to Bisamberg. Then…

The tour to Sulz starts at the Liesing train station, which you can also reach by S-Bahn. After a short stretch through Liesing you will soon reach the long, pleasant gravel climb up to the Wiener Hütte - a nice place for a stop, which comes a little early. Now you are following beautiful forest paths…
