Get on a gondola and start an adventure! That's the motto of this Collection, in which we present some of the most beautiful Tours around the Steinplatte Waidring. We have concentrated on a great mix of leisurely family Tours and ambitious mountain Tours so that you get to know the best of the Steinplatte and surrounding area.
The Steinplatte is a 1,869-metre-high (6,132 ft) mountain massif in the Chiemgau Alps and in the middle of the border triangle of Salzburg, Tyrol and Bavaria. The border between the Austrian states of Salzburg and Tyrol runs along its summit.
A magical place, from its summit you can enjoy magnificent panoramic views. Even if you don't climb it, brilliant experiences await you around its mighty rock faces, whether you prefer to take it easy or be ambitious. The Steinplatte has another decisive advantage: to reach the starting point of your hike, you simply take the gondola to ascend in complete relaxation.
So, let us invite you to explore this very special place. At more than 200 million years old, you can get up close and personal with the dinosaurs that once lived here as you explore Triassic Park. Take the whole family for a relaxing walk and stop off at several quaint cabins along the way. You can also go higher up, for example, on the Tour to the Fellhorn, over the Wiesloch or Klemmerichsteig or to the Winklmoosalm. Three via ferratas add to the mountain fun on this plateau – just in case you need a little more adventure.
Enough talk - now it's time to hike! If you'd like a little taster, check this out:
Dinosaurs in the mountains? Correctly seen: On the Triassic Trail at the Steinplattengipfel you can see the "terrible lizards" up close. The peaks of the Limestone Alps were located on the sea floor at the time of the dinosaurs and therefore you can discover a particularly large number of fossils here…
A wonderful tour that is suitable for adult leisure hikers as well as smaller hikers is this hut tour, which is almost five kilometers long. As the name suggests, the culinary arts are not neglected here. And the nature that you can experience on this hike leaves nothing to be desired.
Your tour starts…
Get recommendations on the best single tracks, peaks, & plenty of other exciting outdoor places.
A somewhat more demanding tour awaits passionate mountain enthusiasts around the Fellhorn. You should plan a whole day for the 21.5 kilometers of this hike and be in good physical shape accordingly. In return, you enjoy all the more beautiful views and landscapes. So let's go!
The Steinplatte gondola…
This tour may look easy due to its length and duration, but should be enjoyed with caution: The Wieslochsteig, a section of the round, requires a little experience and at least surefootedness from you. The goal, the 1,869-meter-high summit of the Steinplatte, could hardly be more impressive.
The hiking…
The Klemmerichsteig is popular among hikers and not without reason: It leads through a wild and romantic landscape from the Steinplatte to the Almenwelt Lofer. An experience that passionate mountain enthusiasts should not miss in this region.
Like all tours in this collection, this one starts at the mountain…
This round tour not only gives you unique culinary experiences, but also an unforgettable journey of discovery through the Winklmoos nature reserve and European reserve. With a length of around 16 kilometers, this hike demands a bit of stamina, but is otherwise also easy to master for sporty families…
Mountaineering Highlight (Segment)
“The” classic on the Steinplatte. It goes straight uphill through the rock face towards the summit. You can expect some airy passages - and correspondingly wonderful views.
With difficulty level C, it is also suitable for sporty families and beginners. Via ferrata equipment is mandatory in any case.

Mountaineering Highlight (Segment)
An exciting via ferrata that combines great views with a challenging summit victory. Starting from the crossbreed "Kopfkrax" you can choose between two differently difficult variants. No matter which one you choose, you will be pampered along the way by beautiful viewpoints and beautiful nature. And at the end you will reach the summit of the Steinplatte via both climbs.
Of course, everything only with the appropriate equipment, surefootedness and experience!

Mountaineering Highlight (Segment)
The Gamssteig is short but crisp: starting from the Triassic Beach area, it leads steeply, but not too far downhill. It is mostly used as an approach to the Schustergangl via ferrata. But it is also good on its own or as a round tour in combination with the Stallenalm, Grünwaldalm and Steinplatte.
Either way, don't forget to pack the right equipment! And, of course, have the appropriate skills.
