Also known as LAW 1-3, the Floris V-pad is a long-distance hiking trail from Amsterdam to Bergen op Zoom. The route is named after Floris V, the count of Holland and Zeeland, who lived from 1254 until 1296. In total, the route covers 250 kilometres (155 mi) over 13 stages.
The Floris V-pad is the southernmost part of the LAW 1, leading from the Wadden Sea to the Oosterschelde.
This hike takes you through typical Dutch landscapes with meadows, fields, old roads and towpaths. You pass many historic fortified towns such as Kockengen, Oudewater, Schoonhoven and Willemstad. Most of the stages are around 20 kilometres (12.4 mi) or sometimes slightly longer.
You can reach the start and endpoints by train from a number of places, although sometimes you have to ride a little longer to get to the station. There are train stations in Weesp, Breukelen, Woerden, Dordrecht-Stadspolders and Bergen op Zoom. There are bus connections in most places too. It’s a good idea to check the timetables in advance as the bus lines are not always frequent.
If you walk several stages in a row, you can find accommodation in almost all places. Again, find out in advance because, especially in the small towns, hotels and guesthouses are scarce. Sometimes you can also camp nearby.
The first leg of the Floris V path starts in the center of Amsterdam, on Dam Square to be more precise. That is only a five-minute walk from Central Station and today you also end up at a train station, namely that of Weesp. If you want to run this Tour as a separate stage, you can leave your car at home.

Stage five of the Floris V trail gives you a glimpse into history. Our Floris V, the namesake of this long-distance hiking trail, once took Woerden. And Woerden is the starting point of this stage. You walk through the medieval center, with the two landmarks of the city: Woerden Castle and the Heilige Bonaventura Church. You will also pass old warehouses and fortified moats.
The absolute highlight of the eighth stage of the Floris V path is of course the UNESCO World Heritage Kinderdijk with its windmills from the 18th century. And you don't have to wait long for it, because from the starting point in Nieuw-Lekkerland you walk directly into the bosom area of Kinderdijk. The first 6.5 kilometers of the Tour are therefore dominated by windmills.
Stage nine of the Floris V path runs along the edge of the island of Dordrecht and largely along the Nieuwe Merwede. You start this walk of about 20 kilometers on the east side of the city, along the Wantij. You follow the Zeedijk to the Kop van 't Land. From here you can see the Biesbosch on the other side of the water.
Stage number 12 of the Floris V-pad runs through the Brabant countryside from Dinteloord to Steenbergen. During your walk you often follow along the water. In the beginning you can see the Noord Volkerak in the distance and you walk along the Dintelse Gorzen.A little further on you cross the Benedensas, a lock complex that is almost 200 years old. Enjoy the beautiful view here, both towards the Volkerak and in the direction of the Steenbergsche Vliet inland.
