Getting a taste for wine — wine hikes in Germany’s Baden region
© Tourismusverband Baden-Württemberg
The atmosphere is simply different where wine grows: the sun shines a lot, the landscape is shaped by the steep slopes and every inn is sociable. Certainly reason enough to get to know the wine regions in southern Germany. In this Collection, we show you seven particularly beautiful wine walks in Baden — from the Swiss border to Kraichgau further north. Four of the Tours are long-distance hiking trails, the other three let you get a taste for wine in a blissful day hike. No matter how far you want to walk, the wine regions along the Baden Wine Route will enchant you with their wonderful serenity and almost Mediterranean landscape. Imagine standing on a mountainside, gazing across the Rhine plain or along the Bergstrasse route, with a sparkling wine spritzer already in sight as a reward.
The five-stage Wiiwegle route (90 km/56 mi) showcases the Markgräflerland region, which stretches from the Swiss border to Freiburg. The Breisgau Wine Trail (just under 100 km/62 mi) takes you from Breisgau to the Ortenau district in six stages. The Ortenau Wine Trail (100 km/62 mi) starts in Ortenau and takes you to the Murgtal Valley in seven stages.
The three long-distance hiking trails lead along the western side of the Black Forest. You’ll always enjoy a fantastic view of its foothills, which slope gently down to the Rhine plain. You can also immerse yourself in the world of wine north of the Black Forest. The Blossom Trail (70 km/43 mi) leads you in five stages along the steep slopes of the Bergstrasse from Darmstadt to Heidelberg. Fancy a shorter excursion into the vineyards? Then you can enjoy the Kaiserstuhl region or wander through the land of 1,000 hills and indulge in the local delicacies. All hikes have one thing in common: wonderful landscapes with warm hospitality.
Leave your everyday life behind for a few hours or even a few days. Exploring the Baden Wine Route on foot offers you absolute relaxation. The area’s beauty will keep you going and the wineries will give you an extra boost.
