GREEN DIVIDE by Erwin Sikkens – the Netherland’s longest nature traverse
Komoot ambassador and gravel enthusiast Erwin Sikkens has created the ultimate green traverse of the Netherlands, connecting the Utrechtse Heuvelrug and the full length of the Veluwe. With a length of 300 kilometres, the GREEN DIVIDE is the longest green route in the Netherlands.
The GREEN DIVIDE consists of two parts; the HEUVELRUG DIVIDE and the VELUWE DIVIDE which can be found as separate Tours in this Collection, just like the full track of the GREEN DIVIDE.
Expect many unpaved doubletrack sections, forest paths, singletrack trails and gravel roads, complemented by paved bicycle paths and the occasional road connection. The route largely consists of paths surrounded by nature, alternating between forest and heathland.
The GREEN DIVIDE uses open countryside paths and is suitable for anyone who wants to immerse themselves in nature for 300 kilometres. The GREEN DIVIDE is not a race, but a bikepacking route for gravel and nature lovers that you can cycle in one or more days. The starting point is Naarden-Bussum train station and after 300 kilometres of greenery you will arrive in the centre of Zwolle.
When choosing your tyres, take into account the weather conditions of the season. A forest path can be dry or muddy. General advice is to start with at least 40 mm tyres. A nubby tread won't hurt, but don't overdo it. For the bikepackers: the Veluwe and Utrechtse Heuvelrug offer many places to sleep, such as (nature) campsites, hotels and B&Bs. The nature campsite Zegenoord, just below Loenen, is located halfway along the route and is perfect for those who want to ride the GREEN DIVIDE in two days.
