Along the Dinkel River, through vast nature reserves and across the border into the Netherlands – Gronau in the border triangle is the perfect starting point for a bike adventure. A network of well-maintained cycle paths, some with a historical background, will take you to the most beautiful places in both the great outdoors and in urban areas. Cycle through shady forests, past wide fields and along the water.
The name Gronau already gives you a hint of what to expect in this Collection: It derives from the word ‘Gronauwe’, which means green meadow. Floodplains, wetlands and heaths characterise the landscape around Gronau and Epe – the two towns that serve as starting points for the eight Tours. You can travel either by car or in a relaxed and environmentally-friendly way by train.
Apart from the varied surroundings, Gronau has a long history of music. After the First World War, a German-Dutch cultural scene developed here and in the nearby town of Enschede, giving rise to numerous music clubs, orchestras and dance groups. Jazz has also always played a major role in the border triangle region, and Udo Lindenberg is considered the city's best-known ‘son’. You can explore the entire history of music in the unique Rock'n'Pop Museum.
It's not just music that tempts you to get moving in Gronau, but the cycle network too. The eight circular Tours in this Collection all run on flat, gradient-free paths that are easy to cycle, even with children. So you won't work up too much of a sweat and can take enough time for the many (musical) highlights along the way.
The center of Epe is the starting point for this round tour, which also takes you across the border into the Netherlands. You can explore the beautiful center of Epe before or after your bike tour. At first you drive west through the beautiful community park and soon cross the Dinkel.
