Wonderful views, picturesque forests, stately castles, and cosy inns – this combination can be found in Taunus, an ideal destination for hiking enthusiasts. As part of the Rhenish Slate Mountains in western Germany, the Taunus is one of the oldest mountains in the country and is crisscrossed by exciting hiking trails. In this Collection, we present 11 of the most beautiful hikes through the Hessian low mountain range. You can look forward to pure nature and a journey through history at the gates of the Frankfurt/Rhine-Main metropolitan region.
Between the Rhine, Main, Lahn, and Wetterau rivers, you can discover two nature parks. The Taunus nature park, the second-largest nature park in Hesse, and the Rhine Taunus nature park which is the most densely wooded in the state. You can travel back in time to the Middle Ages and imagine how kings and princes would once have lived in their magnificent castles. On the 3BurgenWeg, you visit three impressive fortifications. You can also delve into history on the discovery Tours through the health resorts of Bad Soden or Bad Nauheim.
If you want to focus on nature, then you can hike through beautiful landscapes, impressive panoramas as far as the Odenwald and the Spessart, dense forests, deep valleys, and romantic ponds. The varied nature of the Taunus makes your hikes a very special experience. And, as befits Hesse, you will pass by quaint inns where you can re-energise with a glass of apple wine and regional specialities.
The hikes in this Collection are all planned as circular routes and are well marked. If you are planning several days of hiking in the region, the easiest way to get to the individual Tours is by car. You can also reach the starting points by public transport. For example, some of the circular routes are only a short train ride away from Frankfurt central station, making them perfect for a day trip into nature. Many of the hikes are also suitable for children and offer special highlights for little hikers. Immerse yourself in the special atmosphere of the Taunus and experience the most beautiful side of the low mountain range in the best way – on foot.

The name says it all on this eleven-kilometer hike: there is a lot to see, especially in the center of Bad Soden am Taunus. The city was already known for salt and hot springs in the Middle Ages, today it is a well-known health resort. The hike starts at the train station and can be reached from Frankfurt in just under half an hour by S-Bahn.
Green hills, a stately castle and wonderful distant views - pure Taunus awaits you on Richard-Hofmann-Weg. The almost 22 kilometer long route takes you around all five districts of Eppstein. The path is named after Richard Hofmann, who was mayor of Eppstein for three decades and who campaigned for the establishment of the circular path. The path is maintained today by the Eppstein Transport and Improvement Association.
