Located just 60 kilometres (37 mi) south of Munich at the foot of the Zugspitze peak, lies the wonderful Blaue Land region. Around the market town of Murnau am Staffelsee, you discover moors, lakes and rolling hills with a view over beautiful mountain peaks the whole way. The beautiful landscapes are ideal for cycling on both a touring bike or an e-bike. The idyllic Bavarian alpine foothills and their diverse scenery will inspire you just as they inspired the Blaue Reiter art movement and creatives such as Wassily Kandinsky and Franz Marc in the past.

We have put together six beautiful circular Tours for you that are perfect for autumn. Each ride starts and finishes at the station in Murnau am Staffelsee so you can easily arrive by train. From a comfortable 31-kilometre (19 mi) loop to an ambitious 82-kilometre (51 mi) adventure, there’s something for everyone. Aside from the occasional mountain and elevation gain to contend with, the gentle and well-maintained paths lead over low hills and through gentle foothills.

You cycle through pure nature in the Murnauer Moos, one of the largest contiguous marshland areas in Central Europe, and follow cultural routes that explore the homes and locations of the Blaue Reiter movement. The routes take you to the Glentleiten Open Air Museum, with over 60 historic buildings, as well as Schwaiganger Stud Farm. You explore the enchanting picture-book villages of the Blaue Land, enjoy magnificent panoramas and visit rustic inns, where friendly innkeepers serve delicious refreshments.

Curious? Then let's go – it’s time to discover this enchanting region.
