The Drei Zinnen region is located in the east of South Tyrol and is part of the UNESCO World Heritage. The striking Three Peaks are the symbol of the Dolomites and an absolute natural highlight. Of course, you won't climb the three world-famous mountain peaks on this tour, but you will enjoy a wonderful view of them and - almost by the way - a really great and demanding road bike tour that has a lot more to offer.
This tour takes you through the Fodom Valley - that is the Ladin name for "Buchenstein" and before you think that you are cycling relaxed and easy through a shady valley the whole time: there are two long climbs waiting to be plowed by you. At almost 60 kilometers in length and around 1,500 meters in altitude, it is one of the more relaxed racing bike tours that you can take from the Hotel Melodia del Bosco.
It is long, demanding and leads you over three legendary Dolomite passes: the Passo Sella, the Gardena Pass and the eponymous pass of this tour, the Passo di San Pellegrino. The latter may not be as well known as the other passes in the region, but it's totally worth it. From Cencenighe there is a whopping 1,145 meters in altitude over around 18 kilometers. Some really crisp, steep sections are also a very nice announcement if you are well trained.
The Maratona dles Dolomites has been held since 1987 and so you can say that it is a real institution! If you are looking for a real challenge, then this marathon route is just right for you: Including the journey from the Hotel Melodia del Bosco, more than 150 kilometers and a brutal 4,500 meters of altitude are waiting for you. A really demanding, but also a wonderful and unforgettable day in the saddle is guaranteed!
Mountain Biking Highlight
In the renovated bike hotel in Alta Badia, design meets tradition. The familiar atmosphere welcomes you as soon as you enter the hotel. The wonderful location right on the edge of the forest in the middle of the UNESCO natural heritage Dolomites is the ideal starting point for countless mountain bike tours.
The owner family Irsara has managed to create a unique hotel with a lot of charm and character. Despite the very modern design, the hotel does not look cool, on the contrary, the use of lots of wood and traditional elements gives it a warm feel-good atmosphere.
The love of home is reflected in the kitchen. Mainly regional products are prepared for dishes with Mediterranean, South Tyrolean and Ladin influences. Sporty menus, vegetarian or gluten free on request, give you energy and strength for the tour the next day.
