In the far north of central Germany, the majestic Elbe River winds gently through the landscape and purple blossoms adorn the meadows that stretch along the banks. Just a short bike ride away, you find yourself in the middle of picturesque moorland and, a few kilometres further on, crystal-clear lakes invite you to cool off. This region north of Leipzig and Halle is a true paradise for nature lovers who like to discover new things on their bikes.
If you also like a little culture, you'll enjoy castles, idyllic parks with brick-red monuments and an open-air museum where you can marvel at legendary iron giants. The best thing about it is that you can easily reach all the starting and end points of the Tours with the Central German Transport Association’s (MDV) rail network.
We bring you to the Elbe-Urstromtal Valley with eight varied routes. Follow the popular Elbe Cycle Route for a while and enjoy the view of the imposing body of water. Can you imagine a summit crossing near the Elbe River? There really is such a thing, garnished with a wonderful view of the landscape around Lutherstadt Wittenberg. Wild swimming fun awaits you when you get on your saddle near Bitterfeld town and cycle from lake to lake to the tranquil village of Bergwitz. From Gräfenhainichen, we'll take you to the gleaming Gremminer See lake with its iron city Ferropolis and the gigantic mining machines that were used here for decades.
You can visit fluffy sheep and characteristic Konik horses in the heath landscapes of the Oranienbaum and Kühnau Heaths. You can enjoy a stately castle on both trips, too. Mountain bike and gravel bike fans can really get going in the Dübener Heide nature park and along the beautiful Mulde River.
All start and end points of the cycle routes are connected to the MDV rail network. The High North has been included in the transport network since 2019, so your ticket is also valid here. And not just for you either: you can take your bike with you free of charge on all local trains in the MDV! So leave the car behind and go on a discovery Tour with your favourite two-wheeler.
Mad Max and Gemini, Mosquito and Medusa - you can find out which characters are really hidden behind these fabulous names on this 36-kilometer tour from Gräfenhainichen to Marke. Feel free to plan a little more time, because your curiosity will certainly be grabbed and one or the other step will be taken on foot. And because that's not all, you can look forward to a castle and a beautiful heathland by the wayside.

If you are already on the way up here, a trip to the Dübener Heide is practically a must. The route is perfect for a mountain bike due to the nature of the ground and the incline, but a gravel bike will certainly feel comfortable here too. For almost 50 kilometers you will explore part of the beautiful nature park where beavers, foxes and wolves say good night.
Elberadweg and Elbeurstromtal - the Elbe is clearly the dominant river in the region. Its tributary, the Mulde, meanders through the landscape at least as contemplatively and for hundreds of kilometers, sometimes as a Zwickau, sometimes as a Freiberg Mulde. You can accompany them for a while on this tour from Raguhn to Roßlau. Since the paths along the Mulde are still very natural, a mountain bike or a gravel bike is recommended here.
