Cycling Through a Pandemic is a project sharing the stories and perspectives of cyclists from ten countries around the world, who embarked on journeys in their home countries during the pandemic. This is Mohit Raj Kapoor's story.

After roaming around South-East Asia and the mighty Himalayas for more than four years, This was the first time that I had to be home for such a long period and my hungry heart was looking for another adventure to satisfy my longing to be outdoors.

Lately, I had been facing too many mental health issues, and I felt like I had been caged for a long time. Therefore, the quest to explore my own back yard started.

I made a rough plan on the map for a three day bike tour in the Aravalli Range and packed my bike, then off I went. Thing was, I never knew that I lived in an area that's such a hidden gem, and there was so much to explore! Although this was just a short tour local to home, it made me realised that there are so many hidden trails in these mountains.

I started from Jal Mahal on the outskirts of Jaipur, and headed towards Amber Fort. I had to start pushing the bike from the lake in the Nahargarh Forest area! I decided to stick alongside the walls that were built some 150 years ago, and ended up camping inside the jungle.

I was venturing deeper inside the forested area on the second day, really into the wild. I missed some of the main trails, and accidentally went into the leopard zone!

Thankfully I met a forester and explained to him that I was lost in the jungle. Luckily there was not so much drama but I was offered tea.

After managing to get back on the main trail, I spotted a 100-year-old temple, which I decided to sleep beside.

I was back on the main trail after the sunrise and headed towards the Kukas village, heading back home. I enjoyed passing through the farms along the ride, and rode back to where I started near home at back to Amer Fort.
