The Ruhr area and its surroundings and not necessarily the first places that spring to mind when you think about proper gravel Tours. But we can promise you one thing – you’ve been missing out if you think that way! And hey, we should know. Our German headquarters is located between Düsseldorf and Wuppertal, right in the middle of the gravel fun that we present in this Collection. We show you the seven best gravel Tours in our region and take you to the Neander Valley, the Bergisches Land low mountain range, the Elfringhauser Schweiz countryside, and the hilly landscape along the Ruhr.
All routes are designed as day Tours, perfect for a weekend ride. To get to the start, you can take the car or – even easier – arrive directly by train. All of the Tours start at a train station and are very accessible. By the way: If you need a small service done on your bike, you can include the two GIANT stores in Düsseldorf and Essen into one of the routes. Why not visit your bike shop, pick up any spare parts or just grab a coffee and then head on your Tour?
You don't need to travel far to find the perfect gravel ride. With this Collection, we provide you with plenty of material to have a great time on your GIANT Revolt (giant-bicycles.com/de/bikes-revolt-advanced-2021) or on your Liv Devote (liv-cycling.com/de/bikes-devote-advanced-2021) in your area.
This tour starts in the middle of Essen at the main train station and is therefore ideal for you if you are not from Essen and still do not feel like traveling by car. This tour starts at the “Zoologischer Garten” train station and takes you up and down around Remscheid. "Exotic" highlights are included…

South of the Ruhr between Hattingen, Wuppertal, Sprockhövel and Velbert lies Elfringhauser Schweiz, which, with its hilly, green landscape, is an excellent place for extensive gravel tours. The starting point of the tour is the beautiful Ruhrpottstadt Hattingen. It is easy to reach (by S-Bahn) and a…
This quite long gravel tour starts right outside the gates of Düsseldorf, but it does not contain any notable gradients, so that you can make good progress. It takes you to the southern outskirts of Duisburg and although you are never far away from urban areas and traffic routes, it feels like a little…
There is the Ruhr Valley Cycle Path, which follows the Ruhr on mostly paved paths from its source in Winterberg to its confluence with the Rhine near Duisburg. Inspired by this, the gravel bike magazine "lifeCYCLE" opened up and created a version of the Ruhr Valley Cycle Path on unpaved roads that is…
The Flandersbach lime works is located in Wülfrath. It is the largest lime works in Europe, which has been mining limestone around Wülrath since 1903 and processing it into lime in huge rotary kilns. But not all of the rock can be used for this. Material that cannot be burned is sold as gravel, among…
