Here, you can ride through endless forests, enjoy refreshing springs, and marvel at wide views over meadows and fields. Flowing trails lead through the action-packed and varied terrain, with plenty of historic villages en route where you can recharge your batteries. So where is this mountain bike paradise, we hear you say? The Spessart, forested low mountains that stretch between the cities of Main, Kinzig and Sinn. In this Collection, we reveal our top 10 favourite bike routes to guide you around this region’s untouched nature, rich culture and awesome trails.

Located about 34 miles (55 km) to the south-east of Frankfurt, the Spessart is bordered by the Odenwald low mountains to the south and the Rhön mountains to the north. The 10 routes in this Collection will take you through the western and northern part of the Spessart, around the town of Aschaffenburg, the mountain bike epicentre around the town of Bad Orb, and to the northeastern foothills bordering the Rhön mountains.

The region is well set up for mountain bikers with an expansive network of trails. You can also conveniently reach most of the start points by train from Frankfurt, meaning you can leave your car at home. Although you won’t regret spending a long time exploring Spessart, you can also just stay for a weekend break thanks to the good transport connections. At the end of each stage, you’ll find plenty of bike-friendly accommodation to round off your mountain bike holiday.

The routes that we present in this Collection are suitable for all abilities. You follow traffic-free paths and trails through forests and meadows meaning you can fully enjoy the beautiful landscapes and nature. If you want to challenge your mountain bike skills, check out the Flow Trail in Bad Orb. For many years, a duathlon consisting of a running and a mountain bike route started from Bad Soden-Salmünster. This tour largely corresponds to the mountain bike route, which you can follow at any time - even without an event. It is almost 28 kilometers long and mostly leads along forestry and forest

With its 730 meters of altitude, you will certainly feel this tour a little in your calves, but you can expect wonderful views over the foothills of the front Rhön and its transition into the Spessart. Since most of the route runs on gravel or asphalt farm roads, you can do it with a good touring bike

The name says it all: Although this tour is not exceptionally long, it is definitely a challenge. Which is no wonder, after all, it more or less follows the course of the Spessart Challenge, which has enriched the sports program of the spa town of Bad Orb for 16 years. The challenge consisted of running

Even if your mouth is already watering: This tour has nothing to do with a hearty stew, even if it leads over the soil of the municipality of Linsengericht and through the associated court forest. This tour is not 25 kilometers long, but still wonderfully close to nature and varied. It runs mostly on easy-to-drive forest trails, but also integrates many of the numerous trails that are here. As a highlight, you can expect views from a lookout tower and insights into a former quarry, which is now
