Beer has always been an omnipresent theme in the Hallertau region in Bavaria. That’s why we’ve put together six great day Tours centred around this traditional drink that is often popular among us cyclists. These routes will bring you closer to the region’s cultural heritage, culinary offerings, and, of course, beer.
On these rides, you explore the origins of beer’s ingredients in the Hallertau hop fields, enjoy tastings in the small breweries and try a cool ‘Maß’, a measure of beer, with crispy pretzels in the shade under a tree in a beer garden.
The Tours vary in length: from the short 35-kilometre (21.7 miles) Tour through the Hallertau’s fragrant hop gardens to the challenging 88-kilometer (54.6 mile) ride to the ‘origin of beer’. Most of the routes begin in a larger city before leading into the charming surrounding countryside. You can either set off from your doorstep, totally relaxed, or just use public transport to reach the starting points.
The tour starts at Wolnzach town hall and first leads you to the hop educational path on the outskirts. The informatively designed displays give you a lot of background information about the Hallertau hop-growing area and the ecological relationships. Well informed, you pick up speed again - and you…

Research has been carried out here since the 1920s in order to give hop farmers the best possible support in the cultivation, care and breeding of their “green gold”. How it grows and smells you will experience…
