If you’re excited to explore the countryside, hop on your bike and discover beautiful landscapes around Munich. On the Water-Cycle Paths, you are never far from a refreshment stop or a cooling dip – whether you plunge into one of the gorgeous lakes or rivers or enjoy a freshly tapped beer in one of the shaded beer gardens. On the way, you ride along rivers and lakeshores, across fields and meadows and through picturesque villages, small forests and colourful cultural landscapes – all within a stone’s throw from Munich.

In this Collection, we present seven scenic Tours that either start or end in the Bavarian capital. You can also easily ride the routes in the other direction. There are exciting highlights on all of the Tours and they all have one thing in common – crystal-clear waters that wind through the Upper Bavarian countryside just like you do on your bike.

The first Tour takes you from the market town of Holzkirchen through hilly landscapes to the banks of the Isar. You follow the river into the centre of Munich. If you like a bit more of a physical challenge, then the 70-kilometre (43-mile) Isar-Hallertau loop is perfect for you. From the historic town of Freising, you cycle a scenic loop with beautiful views over the Alps. To the south and west of Erding, you also discover many watery highlights such as the Ismaniger Reservoir and the Sempt Valley.

On the route between Munich and Lake Starnberg, you follow in the footsteps of ‘Der Blaue Reiter’, a famous group of artists in the 20th century. On the gentle Isar Tour, water is the focus – cool off your feet in the river or quench your thirst in one of the numerous beer gardens en route. On the Lakes and Rivers Tour near Lenggries, close to the Tyrolean border, you enjoy incredible views. The route traces the feet of the mighty Karwendel Mountains and takes you to the most beautiful lakes in the region and through the unspoilt Isar Valley. Finally, the Isar-Inn Panorama Trail connects the beautiful baroque town of Wasserburg to the centre of Munich.

By the way: with the water cycle routes you are on the move in a completely sustainable way right on your doorstep, because you can easily reach the starting points by public transport from Munich. So you can start your bike tour without having to travel long distances or search for a parking space.
