If your heart races for cycling and you love combining bikes with local culinary specialities and a chilled beer, then Ingolstadt is the right place for you. This city in Upper Bavaria and its surroundings make up an attractive and varied cycling region. Both within and outside of the city walls, you can set off in any direction on well-maintained cycle paths to discover new cultural and natural treasures.
On a cycling Tour through Ingolstadt’s surrounding countryside, you explore the extensive floodplains of the Danube River, historic Bavarian culture, asparagus fields, hop gardens and the Altmühltal Nature Park. Pretty villages with inns and beer gardens line the path, inviting you to take a long break and soak up the ambience under the shade of chestnut trees.
The best way to explore the region’s diversity is via the so-called ‘cycle blossoms’, new themed cycle routes that make the area around Ingolstadt more accessible by bike. On these paths, you can experience the region’s uniqueness and character completely carefree. In this Collection, we present 12 cycling routes that are between 40 and 120 kilometres (25 to 75 miles) long and include a few metres of climbing. For long Tours especially, it’s a good idea to book accommodation at the stage destination in advance. The numerous hotels, inns and guesthouses in Ingolstadt make for ideal Tour starting points and basecamps for longer cycling holidays in the region. Many of them offer services for cyclists and make sure you are properly pampered so you can recharge your batteries fast, ready for the next Tour.
Each ‘cycle blossom’ has its own theme and leads to beautiful places, refreshment stops and cultural monuments in the area. The Tours all run along well-maintained and signposted cycle paths such as the Danube Cycle Path, Schambachtalbahn Cycleway, the Paartal Tour or paths that connect to the Altmühltal Nature Park.
Of course, you can also put together your own individual Tours from the 12 ‘cycle blossoms’. There are numerous points where you can switch to a different ‘cycle blossom’ or cycle path. In addition, you also have the option of taking the train or public transport for part of the route in the larger towns and villages.

The Ingolstadt region is extremely rich in water. With the Danube as a lifeline, its numerous tributaries and the Donaumoos, the largest contiguous low moor in southern Germany, you hardly drive a meter without seeing water - or discovering cultural treasures. It starts on the town hall square in Ingolstadt. Right at the beginning you will come across the Museum of Concrete Art, the only one of its kind in Germany.
The north of Ingolstadt is characterized by the factory premises of Audi AG, but also has tradition to offer: in the Oberhaunstadt district you can find out what role the Nordbräu brewery played in Ingolstadt's long history of beer and brewing. It starts at the Rathausplatz in Ingolstadt. From there, follow the signs for the Danube Cycle Path in the direction of Regensburg.
The south of Ingolstadt extends in a semicircle from the Danube Reservoir and the Danube Auwald over the southern suburbs Hundszell, Zuchering, Unterbrunnenreuth and Unsernherrn, to the main station, the AUDI Sportpark and the popular Auwaldsee. This diversity is best explored on a bike. It starts at the Rathausplatz. You cross the Danube over the Konrad-Adenauer-Brücke and drive on the Danube Cycle Path to the Glacis Bridge. There you will meet the Danube Cycle Path, which you will now follow.
