Famed for its music, theatres and museums, Vienna is highly rated by culture enthusiasts all over the world. But the city also has a lot to offer mountain bikers. In recent years, a great network of trails has been created in the Vienna Woods that is waiting for you to discover. You can find the perfect combination of biking and sightseeing here. In this Collection, you will find a selection of Tours that vary in difficulty. Whether you are an enduro racer or a bike tourer, you are sure to find something for you.
If your bike needs a service or you're thinking about buying a new one, stop by the Giant Store in Klosterneuburg before your ride. The modern shop is located right next to the Danube and is easily accessible by bike. Three Tours in this collection start directly at the shop and take you on fine single trails through the hills around Vienna. The other Tours are great fun too including a trip to the Hohe Wand Wiese Trail Centre and Tours on the Anninger and Hoher Lindkogel, two great mountains for mountain biking to the south of Vienna. A classic route around the Lainzer Tiergarten and an easy trail around the Hameau Hills round off the Collection.
The Tours lead through the Vienna Woods Biosphere Reserve with its beautiful beech forest, romantic valleys, peaceful babbling brooks and great viewpoints over Vienna and the Danube. In addition to great mountain biking, you can also enjoy culinary highlights. The numerous wine taverns serve good local wines such as Grüner Veltliner and Riesling as well as hearty food. What could be better than finishing the Tour with a toast overlooking Vienna and the Danube, reflecting on your awesome ride?
The Weidlingbach Trail Park was the first trail project that was implemented by the Vienna Bike Community under the leadership of the Wienerwald Trails Association. In 2016, two great lines were built into the forest here, which are very popular. It starts again at the Giant Store in Klosterneuburg. You drive through the city, past the monastery and then steeply uphill, past vineyards. After a leisurely section in the forest, you will reach the start of the two trails. The flow line is recommended for warming up. This is the easier of the two trails and guarantees fun even for beginners. Over 35 residents and a few smaller jumps have to be mastered. If you can ride the trail without a break, you are definitely fit! Once at the bottom, you can look forward to the second line. But before that, the almost 200 vertical meters back to the already known trailhead are waiting for you.
Get recommendations on the best single tracks, peaks, & plenty of other exciting outdoor places.
Vienna has had a trail center for two years now and what could be more obvious than paying a visit to it. You can of course also include the trails in the trail center as part of a longer tour. If you want to spend as much time as possible on the trails, then the best way to get there is by S-Bahn. It's only a short drive from the Weidlingau station to the trail center. If you are in Vienna for the first time and want to experience one of the most beautiful views of the city, then on the way there you make a small detour over the forest road up to the Sophienalpe. You reach the Franz-Karl-Fernsicht, which offers a brilliant panorama. If you want to strengthen yourself before the trails, you can stop off at the rustic Mostalm inn.
