The Werse-Ems Cycle Route immerses you in Münsterland’s enchanting landscapes as you ride through idyllic floodplain scenery and untouched nature. You cycle through the unique Münsterland parklands, complete with typical ramparts and endless avenues; discover fairytale moated castles and fortresses; and pedal through historic town centres and dreamy villages. Gentle hills afford unforgettable panoramic views over the picturesque landscape, the Teutoburg Forest and the historic lands of the Soester Börde.
In this Collection, we show you how to comfortably cycle the 190-km (118 mi) circular Werse-Ems Cycle Route in four days. The stages are between 40 and 50 kilometres (25 and 31 mi) long and mostly flat. We have chosen the city of Rheda-Wiedenbrück as the starting point, but as the route is circular, you could also start in the stage towns: Ahlen, Münster-Handorf or Warnendorf. You can reach all of the stage towns easily with the regional train from Münster. The good rail connections also mean that you can plan individual stages as day Tours. From your chosen start, you cycle clockwise along the cycle route through the beautiful Münsterland park landscape. You ride directly along the Werse River on a cycle path before accompanying the River Ems as it flows through wide meadows back to Rheda-Wiedenbrück.
There is great infrastructure along the route including well-developed bike paths. You can stop for a break in the pretty nature, a beer garden or a pub. Each of the stage destinations has a good choice of accommodation such as hotels, guesthouses and holiday rentals.
You can look forward to a range of highlights along the route such as colourful parks like the Four Seasons Park in Oelde, turquoise shimmering lakes, impressive aristocratic houses like Rheda Castle, historic old towns such as Warendorf centre, and much more.
The Werse-Ems Cycle Route promises to be a varied bike Tour through lovely scenery. You can see for yourself. For more inspiration, watch:

Now the last stage of the beautiful round trip along the Werse and Ems is already on the agenda. Before you really start cycling, it is worth taking a detour to the North Rhine-Westphalian state stud right at the beginning in Warendorf.
