The one fantastic thing about abandoned railway lines is that they can be converted into cycle paths as soon as the sleepers are gone. Thanks to the engineers of yore planning bridges and tunnels so trains would have no large gradients to overcome, today you can ride your bike along these same, blissful routes. This makes exploring the Palatinate mountains twice as much fun.

Great cycle paths have been laid out not only on former railway lines, but also across the entire region. They lead you from abbeys to castles, from streams to half-timbered towns and from forests to ruins. With dense woodland, vast fields and babbling brooks, this cycling region is wonderfully varied.

In this Collection, we would like to introduce you to the Palatinate Mountains. Across ten Tours you’ll explore well-known and unknown corners of this magnificent idyll. The routes have a great range of difficulty levels too, with both easy and challenging trails of varying lengths. Pick from a leisurely excursion with the family, train your calves in a breathtaking setting or test them all!

After you’ve explored former railways by bicycle, don’t forget to check out the other way to enjoy disused train lines, by trolley! Find out more here: draisinentour.de
