No matter which bike you ride or what route you choose – there is always more than one good reason to get on your bike. #rideFAR stands for ‘Ride For A Reason’ and is the name of our unsupported ultra-endurance challenge. The event has encouraged countless cycling fanatics around the world to go on great adventures on their bikes during spring 2021. From 27 February to 31 March 2021, riders could compete with each other, albeit at a distance, and have an awesome time together. In this Collection, we present the most exciting, craziest and creative routes that we handpicked from all the participants.
So what exactly made our #rideFAR Challenge so special? Unlike the Orbit360 series, there were no pre-planned routes. Instead, riders planned their own laps. They could decide for themselves whether they wanted to ride 180 or 360 kilometres (112 or 223 miles) and they could also choose their bike. From super fast to particularly adventurous, there were no limits to the participants’ imagination.
As this is a challenge, there should of course be winners. The official leaderboard was ranked based on the time ridden (you can find it here: orbit360.cc/ranking-ride-for-reason). All of the cyclists whose rides made it into this Collection also get a special mention and a komoot premium package. Their adventures make up numerous extraordinary and inspiring biking stories. There’s a 360-kilometre (223 mile) ride on a fixed-gear bike, a 180-kilometre (112 mile) Orbit through the middle of Africa, an XXL shopping trip to regional farms, and much more. One participant even rode his kilometres on a cargo bike and moved house at the same time. Rather than paying for a moving van, he donated the money he saved instead.
Aside from the sporting challenge, there were two particularly good reasons to get on a bike as part of #rideFAR. The entry fee to participate was donation-based and benefits two charitable projects. The Bikeygees help female refugees learn how to ride a bike. The Ghana Bamboo Bike Project provides schoolchildren with bicycles, enabling them to ride to school. Two great projects – our partner, komoot, agrees and supports the good causes by adding an extra donation for every finisher.

Yippie! How cool!
So now, after that.
It was cold and a little windy; I had thought that the wind would only pick up when I drive east again, but he changed his mind and came earlier.
The round: Once around the airfields of the Soviets, Americans, British and French, so to build 4 small 360s into a large…

The idea of this ride was to move my bike from France to Switzerland. I planned a 360km ride but the cold temperatures decided otherwise so I just end up riding 180km. I was happy about it because at the end of the day riding all this weight around was a mission!

Get recommendations on the best single tracks, peaks, & plenty of other exciting outdoor places.
Originally, Matthias and I wanted to do a “bike swap” and start from two different places (Hanau and Freiburg) as part of #rideFar to swap our apartments for one night. Unfortunately, the “bike exchange” with Matthias didn't quite work out because of the weather - while I was blown from Freiburg to Hanau…

I get goosebumps again when I think about it :)
This was pretty dumb. I highly recommend doing it.
Facilities are tip top. There are toilets and coffee onsite. Bring your own snacks and you’re good.
The park changes throughout the day. Amateur athletes make way for dog walkers who make way for families who make way for a lunch time lull which makes…

Super fun day out on the bike and made the most of what we can do while staying within the Covid restrictions and curfew time. I started off by doing the Alicante Audax 200km and added on 180km for extra fun. The weather was really nice and the quality me time was perfect. Thanks for…

Ready for a challenge, I prepared a 365 km loop to participate in @orbit360. This challenge is not only about competition, it is about using the extraordinary distance, that we – as passionate cyclists – cover every year, for a good cause. The donation-based entrance fees will be used to keep the Orbit360…

... what the Black Forest
to do with Mount Everest?
... Well, actually not that much.
Except for my little # ridefar360 idea yesterday:
Because I prefer to go climbing instead of just winding down kilometers, I wanted to couple my Orbit360 Loop with a special climb & link the Black Forest with an Everest…

Well, well 😁!
After yesterday's spoke breakdown, today the lap is back under the small 20 "wheels, to a new one, 2nd attemp ...
This time armed with spare spoke (s) and special tools (luckily I didn't have to pull out, but it made for a calming feeling) on the way. If I hadn't had to waste so much waiting…

Ride during the night of 30 to 31 march in memory to Mike Hall.
I naively believed that I could ride an almost perfect iconic circle of 360km. But passing a few kilometers from the Norman village of Camembert, I realized that I was more likely drawing a cheese. Cycling keeps your feet on the ground...
