How do you experience the Gastein Valley in Austria to the fullest? By hiking the six-day Gastein Trail! This wonderful route has more than 4,500 metres (14,750 feet) of altitude gain, beautiful climbs, dense forests, vast alpine meadows, gurgling waterfalls and fast-flowing rivers. You see Gastein from its most beautiful sides as you hike through the landscapes. Each night, you can stay in an authentic mountain hut en route. This hike takes you away from everyday life and into the peace and quiet of nature.
The Gastein Trail starts in Dorfgastein municipality and leads you through the Hohe Tauern mountains between Salzburg and Carinthia. You hike along high-altitude paths above Bad Gastein and back to Bad Hofgastein in six stages. Although the villages have similar names, they are very different. You discover something new every day and enjoy views over the entire Gastein Valley.
The route is clearly marked with a blue sticker on posts, but using the route planner on your phone makes it even easier. Save the stages and let komoot guide you on your walk. That way, you can be sure that you won’t go wrong.
You can also book the Gastein Trail as a package including your overnight stays and transfers to and from the starting point of the trail. There’s also an option to book luggage transport between the accommodation along the way.
