Water was the most important element in the formation of the Swabian Jura. Long ago, a tropical sea created a proud high plateau; its ridge is now called the Albtrauf. The sea also hollowed countless caves in the region’s karst rock. Then, there’s the Danube River, which has also shaped the Jura for millions of years. These water bodies have created an ancient cultural landscape dotted with vantage points and river valleys that is a must see for every hiker.
One of the best ways to experience this magnificent region and its ‘hikeable’ features is by following one of the DonauFelsenLäufe trails. Located in and around the town of Sigmaringen, these five certified premium hiking trails offer unforgettable adventures.
Want to hike across the ancient Devil’s Bridge and examine mystical castle ruins? Follow the Monastery Rock Tour. On the Wild Valleys and Princely Heights Trail and Beggar’s Kitchen Trail, you walk through romantic valleys on idyllic paths, pausing at spectacular rest spots.
