There’s nothing quite like high mountain walking. Exploring in the fresh air and immersing yourself in nature allows you to relax into the landscape from the first step. On these Tours in Germany’s Swabian Alb, the focus is on experiencing nature rather than the sporting challenge. So you can take it easy on these hikes and enjoy the wonderful vistas in this UNESCO designated biosphere reserve.
In this Collection, you’ll discover gorges and valleys, juniper heaths and beech forests, and vineyards and orchards. Striking rocks, peaks and lookout towers along the paths ensure that your gaze can wander into the distance and, on a clear day, sometimes even as far as the Swiss Alb. Particularly impressive are the steep precipices of the Albtrauf, a tremendous northwest-facing escarpment, where you sometimes walk right along the edge.
A number of outstanding sites await you on the way: castles and ruins open a window to the past including the fairytale-like Lichtenstein Castle, the fortified Hohenneuffen Fortress and numerous castle remnants. The view doesn't just go back in time, it also takes you underground: in the Nebelhöhle cave, you can marvel at impressive stalactites and explore the Wimsen cave by boat.
From a gentle stroll of just a few kilometres to an extended hike, there is an excellent diversity of adventures here and a Tour for everyone from the youngest to the most experienced hikers. This Collection consists of circular walks, so you never have the same outward and return journey and can discover even more of the Swabian Alb.
All routes in this Collection are certified by the German Hiking Institute and the German Hiking Association. They use asphalt sparingly and, instead, take you right into nature. The hiking trails are designed in a way that protects the environment and vital habitats for plants and animals.
Producers of regional foods are also geared toward nature conservation and to your personal enjoyment. On your hikes, you’ll pass farm cafés, rustic country inns and organic restaurants. Take a break and let yourself be spoiled with regional delicacies, because as we all know, the way to a hiker’s heart is through their stomach.
To ensure that our traditional cultural landscape in the Swabian Alb is preserved in all its beauty, there is our code of conduct, or ‘hochgehregelt’:

A route for daydreamers: this wonderful circular hike leads past a stalactite cave and a fairytale castle; not to mention the fabulous views and the enchanted castle ruins. This hike near Nürtingen is a relaxing tour with a few meters of altitude on easily accessible paths. Even if it doesn't go high, you can enjoy fantastic views to the southeast on the way, where the Albtrauf stretches along the horizon. When the view is clear, some castles can be seen: Hohenzollern on the right, Hohenneuffen fairly straight ahead and then Teck on the left. On such days, the Drei Kaiserberge are on the far left.
This circular hike on the Alb plateau above Neuffen is particularly relaxing, as there are hardly any vertical meters to overcome. You can recharge your batteries at beautiful vantage points. Directly from the Hochholz parking lot, you can enjoy the first great view of the Neuffen Valley. There is a large sculpture of glasses that you can see through the frame.
