Winter is slowly but surely receding. Days are getting longer and the countryside is turning green again, especially in the Dolomiti Paganella mountains on the southern side of the Alps. Here, even in spring, you can swap thick layers for lighter clothing, pack your rucksack, and go for a stroll in the woods. The forests around the small town of Fai della Paganella have a particularly magical atmosphere on a doggy spring morning. You can do more than just hike among the might beech trees in this pristine forest – forest bathing.
So what is forest bathing? Unlike the name suggests, there is no water involved. Forest bathing is the concept of spending mindful time in a forest to relax and unwind. In this Collection, you discover dreamlike views of the Adige Valley and experience the benefits of phytoncides and monoterpenes – aromatic substances and essential oils that are emitted by beech trees’ leaves and wood which make the air even more healthy. You can fully immerse yourself in the Forest Bathing Park in Fai della Paganella in Trentino-Alto Adige on these four leisurely hikes. In keeping with its name, the park is home to some of the most beautiful forests in the region. The four hiking trails ‘Sentiero dell'Otto’, ‘Sentiero dei Belvedere’, ‘Sentiero dei Reti’ and ‘Sentiero Acqua e Faggi’ guide you through these magical areas.
Surrounded by giant trees and endless greenery and catching a ray of sunshine as it occasionally peaks through the thick canopy of leaves – this is the perfect place to switch off. Everyday life doesn’t play a role here and walking through the forest can have a therapeutic effect and cleanse the soul. The Tours vary in length and difficulty, but none of them includes many metres of altitude. Here, it’s about switching off, enjoying the peace and quiet and breathing in the fresh air. By doing that, you’ve already succeeded in trying out the phenomenon of forest bathing.
The village of Fai della Paganella, the starting point of these Tours, can be reached easily by train and bus, as well as by car via the Brenner motorway. The nearest train station is in Mezzocorona, about 15 kilometres (9.3 miles) away. You can take a taxi that works together with the Trentino Transporti bus company (ttesercizio.it) to Fai della Paganella on request. Alternatively, you can travel to the train station in Trento (about 30 kilometres/18.6 miles away) and take bus 611 to the village.
This circuit got its name, which translates as “Path of Eight”: starting from Via Pradonec in Fai della Paganella, within four and a half kilometers you turn an eight through the most beautiful corners of the village and its surroundings. As you march along the country lanes between meadows, forests, gardens and other wonderful landscapes, you repeatedly come across extensive cultivation areas. Potatoes and corn in particular, but also hops here and there, are typically grown in this diverse area.On your eighth lap, you can enjoy several magnificent views of the wine and apple-growing areas of the Adige Valley. The flora and fauna, the landscape and its peculiarities are explained to you again and again with the help of wooden boards and other interesting, wooden works of art. So after your round you not only arrive relaxed and tanned, but also a bit more educated at your starting point.
Experience wonderful views without having to expend yourself insanely: The “Sentiero dei Belvedere” circuit is a simple but wonderful hike through the forest with a few unforgettable views. The two and a half kilometer tour begins in the heart of Fai della Paganella. Without much uphill or downhill you walk away from the village and towards the beech forest. Once there, you will soon pass some wonderful viewpoints that give you unrestricted views of the Paganella, the Adige Valley, the Lagorai Group and the eastern Trentino. On the way, a detour to the “Grotta della Madonna” is recommended. It only demands a few more meters of you before you then walk back to your starting point on a leisurely way.

Time for a little history: In addition to the soothing forest bath, you can experience one of the most important archaeological excavation sites in the Alpine region on the "Sentiero dei Reti". From your starting point on Via Belvedere in the heart of Fai della Paganella, you first make your way towards the forest. And you will soon immerse yourself in the same. You can hike here! Surrounded by mighty giant trees, you march there without any significant climbs. You always have a magnificent view of the Adige Valley. Until you finally find yourself in the middle of the Rhaetian settlement. The “Doss Castel” excavations go back to the Middle Bronze Age. It is a once fortified village that suddenly transports you back to another time.Once you've sniffed enough history, flat paths take you first through beautiful nature, then through the Valiard district back to your starting point.
"Sentiero Acqua e Faggi" - the path of water and beeches - awaits you on this five-kilometer circuit. And it more than lives up to its name: You hike through a beautiful beech forest, past small streams and waterfalls. Forest bathing at its best awaits you!The tour starts right in Fai della Paganella. The Via Padronec leads you out of the village and into the green, dense forest. The water is not long in coming. Soon you will be accompanied by a peaceful babbling brook, here and there a smaller waterfall bubbles. But such a round in the Forest Bathing Park Fai della Paganella would of course not be the same if it didn't offer you the corresponding views: As you slowly get closer to your starting point, you again have a fantastic view of the Adige Valley. Enchanted by this, the last few meters back to the town center can be mastered even better.
