Cycling is the perfect way to explore Germany’s historic city centres of Nuremberg, Erlangen, Fürth and Schwabach. You can roll leisurely along the quiet streets and alleys of the old towns, get off your bike for a pretzel or visit a church or a castle. But the region can do more than just history: if you follow the three rivers– Rednitz, Pegnitz and Regnitz – out of the cities, they’ll lead you straight into the countryside. On your bike, you'll visit open fields, unspoilt forests and quiet stream valleys.

In this Collection, we present eight varied bike Tours that are sure to expand your horizons beyond the city limits. Nuremberg – and also its surrounding villages and towns – offers many cultural and historical sights, while the surrounding countryside is packed with beautiful forests and fantastic views. It takes little time to ride from the city limits into the verdant landscapes that are so rural that you won’t believe Nuremberg is just over the horizon.

There are real treasures in this Collection to suit every level of fitness. In addition to the two somewhat more demanding Tours that take you to the gates of Franconian Switzerland, there are four moderate half-day Tours, for example to the Ludwig Canal or along the Pegnitz. There are also two mini Tours in the city area, but they’re so packed with sights that you have to be careful not to forget about cycling completely!

Do you already know this area like the back of your saddle and you can't find your favourite Tour in the Collection? Then show us! Just copy the link to your Tour below into the Collection comments and tell us why it’s your favourite bike route.

Most of the Tours start in Nuremberg city centre. However, those that start on the outskirts of the city or are a little further away can easily be reached by public transport. Of course, everyone gets hungry and thirsty at some point on a bike Tour but you’re in the very best hands with the Franconians. Whether it's a tasty Schäuferla (roasted pork shoulder), Franconian bratwursts (local sausages) or fresh vegetables from the garlic country, accompanied by a traditionally brewed beer, the Franconian cuisine will stick in your memory long after your adventure.
