On the hottest days of the year, many people head to the sea. However, summertime is also a beautiful season to head to the mountains. Instead of long car journeys, you can enjoy cable car rides and pleasant hikes. Instead of crabs and wicker beach chairs, you can tuck into regional delicacies in a rustic mountain hut. Instead of sand and saltwater, you can dive into crystal-clear mountain lakes backdropped by a lush green Alpine landscape. Sounds good, right?
The eight hikes in this Collection take you to the most beautiful lakes in the Lech Zürs region of Austria, a popular ski resort. On hot summer days, you can hike to turquoise lakes: visit the sparkling Formarinsee lake, explore the shores of Spullersee lake, and dive in the cold waters of Butzensee lake. On the way, you can stop off at the hidden Zug waterfall and follow the waters of the River Lech. When you get thirsty, you can enjoy a cool drink in a rustic mountain hut.
Summer is milder in the mountains. You can avoid sticky heat by cooling off in the cold waters of the Lech or jumping into a mountain lake. It often feels like you are far away from any civilisation in the lonely landscapes. With a little luck, you may even enjoy a mountain lake all to yourself.
As soon as you arrive in the region, you notice that summer is not quite as hot here. After all, the accommodation and hotels located at 4,750 feet (1,450 m) or higher. For this reason, as well as the lakes and streams, you are guaranteed a refreshing times in the mountains both physically and mentally.
