The Hennenkobel, our local summit, gives you a taste of the beauty of the Bavarian Forest National Park, with its densely forested slopes. The extensive Schachtenwanderung hike, on the other hand, leads you to open spaces in the heart of the forest, where grazing cattle still find refuge under ancient, isolated trees today. At higher altitudes, you can enjoy the Großer Falkenstein and hike to the Kleiner Abersee, one of the few cirque lakes in the region. The Riesbach Falls, with their 55-metre (180 feet) cascades, are also not to be missed. Near Rabenstein municipality, you can take a Kneipp bath in a clear stream, which is good for your joints, muscles and overall health. As you can see, our beautiful region has a huge variety of things to offer.

At ten kilometers and around 400 meters of altitude, our magical “house tour” takes you directly from your holiday apartment up to the viewpoint on the Hennenkobel. You can expect nothing less than a dreamlike panorama and wonderful forest paths in typical Bavarian style.Strengthened with a delicious breakfast and a snack in your luggage, you're ready to go. After a few hundred meters you have left Zwiesel behind you and are now climbing meter by meter into the Bavarian Forest. At the height of Rabenstein you can take a look at the picturesque place, then it becomes noticeably steeper.The easy to hike path up to the Hennenkobel is a pleasure in every season and sweetens your exertion with every step. You have reached the top at 965 meters. Time to unpack the delicacies and calmly soak up the grandiose view over the gentle elevations of the surrounding forests. You will also find a small refuge up here.The same dreamlike path now leads you back into the valley and to your accommodation. How nice that completely new perspectives open up on the way back. Everything suddenly looks completely different down the valley. So there is still a lot to discover on the way back and enough time to relax.
A top-class shaft hike awaits you on this extensive, 20-kilometer tour from the banks of the picturesque Frauenau drinking water reservoir. Discover the open spaces of the high pastures, which stand in wonderful contrast to the dense sea of forests of the Bavarian Forest National Park.You start at the parking lot for the drinking water reservoir and can quickly fill up your water bottle here. You walk leisurely on level ground along the reservoir. After about five kilometers, your calves get more to do, because it goes up to the Hoch- and Almschachten.The open mountain meadow landscape offers you a great view of the highest mountains of the Bavarian Forest. In the past and in some cases until today these open areas were and are grazed. Again and again you see single, ancient trees on the lush meadows: shady resting places for grazing animals and at the same time a great photo opportunity. Up here you will also find one or the other promising bench and refuge for your snack.The way back to the starting point takes you over soft forest paths and to the Lost Schachtenbach, which joins other small streams on the way down to the valley. It goes downhill slowly until you get back to the parking lot.

You can expect around 600 meters of altitude on eleven kilometers with great views with countless views of the beauty of the Bavarian Forest National Park.Right from the starting point at the Zwieslerwaldhaus car park, it gets demanding, because it is steadily uphill. Over four kilometers you will slowly but surely gain altitude. Treat yourself to a little break from time to time and enjoy the view when the forest opens up. You can even spot the Großer Arber in good weather.With the summit of the Großer Falkenstein at 1,315 meters you will reach the highest point of the tour. No less than a fantastic panorama awaits you up here. And for your physical well-being, a stop at the Falkenstein refuge with hearty, Bavarian cuisine.As soon as you leave the Falkenstein, the meters in altitude drop again. This lets you enjoy the Wind Throw Adventure Trail even more, which unfolds a special magic through wild, fallen trees. And it remains magical. The Mittelsteighütte primeval forest area is the habitat of ancient giant trees and rare flora and fauna. From here it's not far back to the starting point.
All the charm of the Bavarian Forest in one tour - that's what you get on this twelve-kilometer circular hike. Discover the picturesque Kleiner Arbersee, the absolutely photogenic Arber chapel, collect a few meters of altitude and of course your physical well-being is also taken care of on the way.You start at the Brennes car park or the Thurnhoflift bus stop and have already arrived at the border of the Bavarian Forest National Park. The first few kilometers are relaxed and without inclines and declines through the fragrant forest to the Kleiner Arbersee. Wild and romantic, it is surrounded by lush green meadows and dark fir trees.From now on you will be challenged a little more, because the ascent to the Chamer hut is ahead of you. In return, a relaxed rest with Bavarian delicacies beckons at almost 1,300 meters above sea level. Freshly strengthened, you continue hiking on the edge of the national park. There is only one more, small climb ahead of you.Below you, the small Arbersee appears again in the distance between the fir tree tops and provides a fantastic panorama. From this point on it is only a relaxed walk down and back to the starting point.
If you are out and about in the Bavarian Forest, the fairytale Riesloch Falls are almost a must. And in addition to the bubbling waterfalls, you can expect at least a fantastic view from the Schweiklruh.At the Bodenmais train station, the uphill is pretty tough. After a few kilometers on a forest road, a rooted path through dense mixed forest will bring you steadily upwards. If you prick up your ears, you can already hear the rippling of the Riesbach.Over many centuries the brook has carved an enchanting gorge into the rock. Even more impressive, however, are the cascades over which the water of the Riesloch Falls falls. In total, the falls are 55 meters high, the main fall alone 15 meters. An absolute feast for the eyes.Just a short distance further, the forest opens up and you can enjoy the view from the Schweiklruh on a comfortable wooden bench. Take your time, because now the descent is just waiting for you. This in turn leads you past the Riesloch Falls and to the Riesbach crossing with some playful cairns. Then you follow the same path back to the train station.Tip for arrival: With the regional train RB 37 you can get directly from Zwiesel to beautiful Bodenmais in just 20 minutes. Then lace up your hiking boots and set out on this circular hike, on which you will take Big Rachel and Lake Rachel with you.You can reach the starting point by bus at the Racheldiensthütte stop. You will also find a parking space here if you are traveling by car. And the way leads you straight up. After about half the altitude difference you will reach the picturesque Rachelsee, one of the few cirque lakes in the Bavarian Forest. It was created by glacier movements and meltwater during the last ice age.On the shore you will soon come across the Kapellensteig, which will bring you up to the summit of the Großer Rachel. Once you have savored the dream panorama with all your senses, the path leads you past the Waldschmidthaus, which entices you to take a well-deserved break in the summer season. It continues with incomparably promising views, but now steadily downhill.At the Lieslbrunn you can refill your water bottle with clear, cool spring water, then you slowly walk over bubbling streams back to the plain and back to the starting point of the round.

From there a quiet road leads past the magnificent villa and to the Regenhüttenweg, which takes you into a wonderful sea of forest. Only a few hundred meters further you can now walk on the Kneipp path. Now it's time to take off your shoes and socks and into the refreshingly cool water of the small Kneipp stream.A tip for proper Kneipp therapy: When you step into water, you pull one leg out of the water again and again and stalk through it like a stork. If the brook gets too cold for you, you brush the water off your calves and feet with your hands and slip back into your warm stockings and shoes. A pleasant warmth will soon surround you.If you have packed a snack, you can enjoy it at a nice resting place right by the stream. On the same path as you came, you walk back to the starting point.

Then look forward to this beautiful hike from Zwieslerwaldhaus to Schwellhäusl.It starts at the Zwieslerwaldhaus parking lot, where you disappear into the forest after a few meters. When you arrive at the old customs house, you briefly follow the little-traveled Zollhausstrasse and dive back into the forest. The constant purring of the bubbling brook Großer Deffernik and the swell canal accompanies you and makes the forest path even more magical.You follow the turns of the swell channel and soon find yourself at a small forest lake. Surrounded by fir trees and deciduous trees, the Trifterklause invites you to a hearty meal or a delicious piece of cake.The way back is via the wild Watzlik-Hain primeval forest adventure trail. Here, nature is given free rein and ancient trees create an incomparable idyll. The mightiest tree in the Bavarian Forest National Park is also located here: the six and a half meter tall large forest fir tree. Via Zollhausstraße you leave the giant trees behind you and slowly walk back to the parking lot.
With the Hennenkobel, a perfect vantage point awaits you on this moderate round tour with a few meters of altitude. Ideal if you only want to take a short excursion but still want to enjoy the wonderful panorama of the Bavarian Forest from a little further up.It starts at the castle car park of Rabenstein Castle. A bus will also take you here if you don't want to travel by car. You walk past the impressive, white villa and shortly afterwards you have arrived in the middle of the forest. It is slowly but steadily uphill. On the way you can treat yourself to a breather at a typical small refuge.Only at the end of the ascent does the path get a little steeper, then you have reached 965 meters and the summit of the Hennenkobel. In the panoramic refuge you can unpack your snack and marvel at the gentle elevations of the national park.For a few meters you follow the same path back and down from the Hennenkobel, then you turn onto the right branch in the forest. Already almost arrived at the bottom, you have another great view of Rabenstein.
