We are making a #Festive500 route that will take you above/beyond Amsterdam and through all the good parts Northern Holland has to offer. We’ve done a reckon ride to finetune the route, checking out all the coffee spots, the places where you can eat “Dutch Herring” (Volendam!!!) and see windmills along the dykes. #touriststyle CLOCKWISE
We highly recommend to ride the route clockwise as we have set up the route to be #Festive 500 proof. It’s a beautiful scenic route, but as it might be cold and rainy the route has nice long stretches so you can continue peddling without too much traffic / turning needed. DETOURS
We note that many roads in this part of Holland are under construction / closed or provide detours, also lots of ferries are not running during winter. Therefore we highly recommend to stick to the route as provided and not deviate from it since we already done a reckon ride to avoid all closures. COFFEE STOPS
We have planned the main coffee / food stop in Hoorn, after 60kms. There you will find everything you need to get a nice refill. From there it’s about 50km back. Then last part which will take you through some more villages (Volendam, Monnickendam) which provide some mental support as they will tell you you’re getting closer to Amsterdam.RECOMMENDATIONS:
De Rijp (40km)
Scenic Christmas village. In the historic centre of De Rijp you can find nice local spots. “Koffie en Lekkers” for example koffieenlekkers.nl . And they can use support, since they employ people with a distance from the labor market.Hoorn (60km)
Nice 17th-century town (with train-station) that has many shops and cafes, they have free public toilets available (not sure if during weekdays). The route takes you along our favourite coffee spots: (i) “30ML Roasters” 30ml.nl/vestiging/hoorn; (ii) “Koffie van Hoorn” a very nice local specialty coffee shop koffievanhoorn.nl (highly recommend).Volendam (85km)
Speaks for itself: the he old fishing village at the Markermeer, with its local traditional costumes, music and fish, characteristics small houses and famous dyke. Lots of fish shops to be found.Monnickendam (93km)
Historic seaside town. Nice coffee spots available as well.
