Welcome to the Bavarian Forest National Park – the first park of its kind in Germany and the country’s only primeval forest. Here, nature is still allowed to be nature: beavers help to re-naturalise the landscape, streams ripple happily along their course, and lush greenery and unique flora and fauna thrive. You can discover the largest forest landscape in Central Europe and spend an unforgettable holiday with your family or friends.

In this Collection, we – the Panoramablick holiday apartment near Mauth in the Lower Bavarian district of Freyung-Grafenau – introduce you to the most beautiful Tours in our wonderful Bavarian Forest. We show you the best corners around the accommodation, with a view of Lusen peak. Whether you hike through the low mountain range, cycle, or simply take a relaxing stroll through the forest, we are looking forward to welcoming you.

The Bavarian Forest, or Bayerischer Wald, extends along the border between Bavaria and the Czech Republic for 100 kilometres (62 miles) long. The low mountain range reaches 1,456 metres (4,776 feet) at its highest point. With several information centres and a well-developed network of hiking trails, the area is perfect for both young and old adventurers. You can learn a lot about the local flora and fauna too.

As one of the last primeval forests, the Bavarian Forest has a very special status in Germany. The dense vegetation is returning to its original state and is even home to wolves, lynxes, beavers, otters, kingfishers, and owls. You don’t have to spend days in the forest to catch a glimpse of them either, you can visit the open-air animal enclosure at the Lusen National Park Centre to meet them.

You can, of course, also discover the local mountains with us. We offer a Tour to the fifth highest mountain in the Bavarian Forest – the Lusen. You can see it from the apartment so hiking to the top is pretty much a must! You hike to the summit on the spectacular Himmelsleiter (Jacob’s Ladder), a narrow, dead-straight path. On another Tour, you climb the Siebenkopf mountain and explore Moldauquelle spring. You can learn about the Trift (cattle track) which would once have been used to transport valuable wood from the forest on the local waterways.

From Munich, you can easily drive to Mauth on the A 92 motorway via Landshut and Landau. Once you arrive, you can leave your car parked as all the Tours can be reached by bus. For the latest bus times, see: bayerwald-ticket.com. A great treat for all holidaymakers in the Bavarian Forest is the aktivCARD Bavarian Forest, which you receive upon arrival at the holiday apartment. You can use the all-inclusive guest card for free entry to many of the region’s attractions. For more information (in German), see: aktivcard-bayerischer-wald.de

As you can see, a trip to the Bavarian Forest is anything but boring. We look forward to welcoming you on your educational, exciting, and relaxing holiday with us!

it certainly won't be boring. Enjoy an educational, exciting and above all relaxing holiday with us in the Bavarian Forest. We look forward to seeing you.

This tour is all about the wet element, because you can experience several bodies of water at the same time. First of all, the path follows the moat that connects two small streams. A little later you will reach the Reschbach. Here you walk on a very idyllic hiking path along the watercourse. The natural forest greets you with lush green and a pleasant wildness.

The 1,373 meter high Lusen is the fifth highest mountain in the Bavarian Forest and has rightly been named a geological attraction. On your way up, the first highlight awaits you with the Teufelsloch. It was once thought that the devil was whispering deep beneath the rock formation. But the little brook Kleine Ohe actually flows underground and causes the mysterious roar.

The circular route to the Große Kanzel has a very special mascot: Because here you can watch the kingfisher - he also guides you on notices along the way. The presence of this iridescent bird, with its blue head, reddish belly, and blue-green plumage, is an indication that the waters where it lives are healthy.
