MTBing in the Bavarian Forest – Wildnisresidenz am Nationalpark

Mountain Biking Collection by Ferienregion Nationalpark Bayerischer Wald

The Wildnisresidenz am Nationalpark holiday apartment is, you guessed it, located directly at the Bavarian Forest National Park. The accommodation is a 15-minute walk from the Haus der Wildnis National Park Centre and the Falkenstein National Park Centre is just 300 metres (980 feet). If you are looking for a perfect base for hiking, cycling, and mountain bike Tours, then the lovingly-designed holiday apartments offer all the comfort you could wish for – welcome to the Wildnisresidenz!

But that's not all, our guests not only feel at home in one of the two holiday apartments which have been awarded five stars by the German Tourism Association, but also enjoy our large, park-like garden and sauna. Little guests can let off stream at the in-house playground. In winter, a cross-country skiing trail and ski touring opportunities are just one kilometre (0.6 miles) away.

As the accommodation is centrally located in the forest, some hikes and bike Tours start right from the front door. In this Collection, we present the six best mountain bike Tours around the Wildnisresidenz. The Tours focus on the fantastic nature and panoramas, but you will also get your money’s worth as an experienced biker. Without an e-MTB, you’ll face a few challenges on the way, but with an e-MTB you can relax on all of the Tours.

Our routes take you into the wild and romantic nature of the Bavarian and Bohemian Forest. You’ll discover crystal-clear mountain lakes, impressive mountain ranges, lonely mountain villages, rustic inns and huts serving food and drink on both the Bavarian and Czech sides of our region. Experienced single trail bikers will be especially happy at the Spicak Bike Park, a nationally renowned downhill park in the immediate vicinity.

All Tours start and end at the Wildnisresidenz at the national park. The accommodation is well connected to buses and trains so you can easily arrive with public transport. Three bus lines and the Lindberg train station are less than 300 metres (980 feet) from the Wildnisresidenz. When you stay at the apartments, you can use the buses free-of-charge with the GUTi ticket and bring your bike along too. You can find further information (in German) here: bayerwald-ticket.com/fahrplaene-im-tarifgebiet-bayerwald-ticket-guti.

On this tour, the journey is the goal: the dreamlike nature of the Bavarian-Bohemian forest is omnipresent and your route leads mostly away from civilization through the German-Czech border area.Almost 43 kilometers and 920 meters in altitude need to be mastered. In terms of driving technique, however, there are no major challenges waiting for you. The focus here is on enjoying the landscape.Don't forget to bring a snack and enough to drink with you. In front of Zwieselerwaldhaus towards the end of the tour, there are hardly any opportunities to take care of yourself.

On this tour you will discover the Bavarian Forest around the Hochschachten and the Frauentalsperre, with the hiking trail around the Latschensee as the highlight. Don't forget to pack a snack.Around 45 kilometers and almost 900 meters in altitude await you on this mountain bike tour. You cycle almost continuously on forest roads or roads, which is why the tour with electric drive loses its classification as "difficult". The path around the Latschensee is a hiking trail - so don't forget to pack a lock so that you can lock your bike at the bicycle parking lot.On the way back you drive along the beautiful Frauentalsperre towards Buchenau. There the path crosses your way to the Latschensee and you can decide whether you want to take the dangling to the Scheuereck red deer enclosure with you or go back to the hotel directly.

This hearty, cross-border tour takes you past two idyllic mountain lakes. Since they are under nature protection, you are not allowed to swim here, but a rest on the shore is still very relaxing. With 40 kilometers and 860 meters of altitude difference, you have the perfect excuse for an extended break. On this tour it also gets technical every now and then. Even if you are mostly on forest roads, there are always trails with a difficulty from S1 to S2 on the single trail scale - so downhill fun is guaranteed! On this tour you will also pass the observation tower over Spicak and its bike park. So you can increase the proportion of trails on your tour if you want. However, Spicak is not for beginners. Please find out beforehand whether you and your bike are up to the demands of this downhill park. But even without a bike park you will get your money's worth on this tour. The enchanting landscape of the German-Czech border area is already an attraction enough to offer you a fulfilling day tour.

On this mountain bike tour you will penetrate deep into the Bohemian Forest of the Czech Republic. On almost 65 kilometers you have to conquer almost 1,300 meters in altitude - this exit is primarily aimed at advanced bikers. If you ride with an electric drive, the difficulty of the tour is of course reduced.Due to the perfect location of our holiday apartments, it doesn't take long before you immerse yourself in the beauty of the Bavarian forest and first follow the great Deffernik to the Czech border. The historical border is also a great vantage point for both countries. From now on you can expect a wonderful panoramic tour through the Bohemian forest. With constant ups and downs, but almost continuously on easily navigable forest roads, the tour leads you through wild and romantic nature. The area is sparsely populated, so make sure you bring a snack and enough to drink with you. Only in Prasily is there a reliable opportunity to stop by.From there it is another eleven kilometers to get back to the wilderness residence. On the way you will pass the Scheuereck red deer enclosure, the residents of which not only inspire young mountain bikers.

On this tour you will get to know the region around the Arber. On almost 39 kilometers you will conquer 790 meters of altitude, but mostly on easily navigable forest roads. You can especially look forward to the little natural spectacle on the Kleiner Arbersee: There are floating islands on which rare plant species grow!First you drive along the Great Rain, before you set out on the admittedly quite crisp climb to Brennes. There you can take a breath and strengthen yourself before you go to the highest point of the tour, the Kleiner Arbersee. Make sure you pack a snack - the banks of the quiet mountain lake invite you to take an extended lunch break. Then it goes downhill, deservedly, before the last big climb to the Hochbergsattel is imminent. Shortly before the end, the Schwellhäusl awaits you, an excellent restaurant in the middle of the forest. You pedal gently downhill for the remaining six kilometers before you arrive back at the wilderness residence.

The tour to Silberberg over the Unglücksbrücke sounds like a hero's journey in a fantasy novel - that alone is reason enough to drive it. Instead of forest spirits and bridge trolls, however, you can expect wonderful nature, great panoramic views of the Bavarian Forest and hearty inns. With almost 36 kilometers and a gradient of 770 meters, the focus of this tour is clearly on enjoyment. It starts at the wilderness residence and after a short time over the so-called accident bridge, which collapsed a few years ago under a timber transport. It has now been rebuilt and is the gateway to the Silberberg, which you now pedal up.Once at the top, you will be rewarded with a great view before you head downhill towards Brandten. Another ascent along the Hennenkobel lets you dive back into the deep forest before you roll the last few kilometers downhill towards the wilderness residence.

    Wildnisresidenz am Nationalpark

    Mountain Biking Highlight

Great located villa with two luxurious holiday apartments, which were rated five stars by the German Tourism Association in December 2019. From here you can walk to the National Park Center within 15 minutes.

Many beautiful hikes and bike tours start from here. In winter you are only one kilometer from the ski touring and cross-country skiing trails. A great playground and the park-like garden make the wilderness residence perfect for families with small children.
