Walking through a freezing cold wintery landscape is the best way to clear your head. A thick blanket of snow glistens in the sun as you listen to your crunching steps through the snow, forgetting any stress. Winter hikes are great fun, especially in the Ammergau Alps Nature Park in Bavaria in southern Germany. In this Collection, we’ve put together nine varied Tours for you, ranging from short walks to summit hikes. You explore the region between Bad Bayersoien municipality in the north and the wild and romantic Graswang Valley in the southwest. The unique landscape comes alive here in winter and it’s waiting to be discovered by you.
The most comfortable way to get to the Ammergau Alps is by train. The journey takes a good hour from Munich. Thanks to its unique characteristics and diversity, the region was made a designated ‘Nature Park’ in 2017. On your hikes, you’ll be enchanted by the beauty of southern Bavaria, enjoy magnificent views of the surrounding mountains and the picturesque Ammer Valley, and stop off at cosy inns. All of the hiking routes are well signposted, just follow the markers with a snowflake.
You don't need any special equipment for winter hiking in the Ammergau Alps Nature Park – tight boots, warm clothes, and perhaps a thermos of tea is enough. On your hike up the Pürschling peak, it’s worth taking a sledge with you up the mountain. You can slide downhill super fast – it’s great fun! Walking in the snow is especially wonderful with the winter sun warming your cheeks, but you can go hiking here in all weathers. The cold air can even help to clear your head. After your Tour in the cold, you can warm up in one of the inns or treat yourself to a treatment in one of the mud spas in Bad Kohlgrub or Bad Bayersoien. So let it snow!
