I find the Harz mountains particularly beautiful in winter. Although this northernmost low mountain range in Germany is not particularly large, it is diverse. Cliffs, streams, peaks, forests and huge reservoirs are especially wonderful in the depths of an icy winter. You’ll often find yourself alone on the trails here – giving you the chance to take a break from everyday life for a while.

In this Collection, I’ve put together some great winter Tours for you. You need a whole day for most of the hikes, but some are shorter. Don’t forget to pack warm clothes and a hot drink.

If you need more tips on suitable equipment, winter hiking with dogs, snow conditions and how to ensure you have a successful winter hike in the Harz Mountains, you can find information (in German) here: etappen-wandern.de/tagestouren/winterwandern-im-harz-die-schoensten-rundwanderungen.

This was an unforgettable tour! Not only to escape the crowds, but also because the weather forecast was so good and I had so little sun for the pictures for my hiking guide "Winterwandern im Harz". So we set off after dark. Our destination: the Wurmberg summit, the highest point in Lower Saxony. The

Oh, today was something very special 🤩. A snowshoe tour in the Harz foothills with up to half a meter of fresh snow, crazy! I was probably the first to walk my path around part of the Teufelsmauer after the snowfall of the last few days: I had to fight my way through a lot of snow. On the way back on

To kick off the new year, I'm back with a fine tour from the Harz Mountains. After I let myself be fattened up over the holidays, gave myself some time to switch off and then made many new exciting plans, I had to lace up my hiking boots again yesterday.

The year is still young, but Lotte and I already have more than 250 kilometers on the clock. We currently spend almost every day in the snow, sit in the van in the evenings and as I write, the best hiking dog in the world devotes itself to his beauty sleep. Why all that? I am writing a new book for Rother

Lotte and I have covered almost 100 kilometers in the last four days in the Harz Mountains and are now back home full of wonderful impressions. The "duty" is almost fulfilled: We have already put together almost 40 tours for the hiking guide "Winterwandern Harz" for the Rother Bergverlag. Now comes the

  7. How I was looking for (and found) winter today. 😁

Finally something like a winter hike. I admit I'm a little impatient when it comes to winter, but today I finally found my happiness in the Harz mountains. We climbed from Schierke to where, logically speaking, there had to be the most snow: on the Brocken

Short winter greetings from the Harz Mountains. ❄️🎅🏼❄️

When the first snow falls in the Harz Mountains, the Acker mountain range is usually beautifully white. The hike took us between 700 and 850 meters to the Hanskuehnenburg. The cool, clear air was simply wonderful. The first part of the tour runs

Of course we had to see for ourselves whether there was snow in the Harz Mountains 😉. That's a stark contrast: last week in Osnabrücker Land we caught the last mild day of autumn, today we're trudging through the snow.

It has snowed a lot in the Upper Harz for the last few days, but not enough to make

In the cold season it is often difficult to get your butt off. After my hiking holiday in January, however, I had resolved not to let the wind and cold hold me back. As a Lower Saxon who likes to hike in the mountains, the Harz Mountains are a natural hiking area.
