The main route of the Oberpfälzer Radl-Welt runs for about 310 miles (500 km) long in a figure of eight around the beautiful town of Weiden in the Upper Palatinate. You can easily shorten the eight-day route to four days and ride just one loop of the figure of eight. Alternatively, you can choose one of the six two- or three-day adventures along themed trails. You can combine the routes together to create your own route depending on how much time you have.
The rides take you through the unique landscapes of the Upper Palatinate Forest. The dreamy Forest & Valleys Tour takes you through shaded woodland, the legendary Zoigl & Fish Tour introduces you to traditional fishing and beer brewing in the region, and the fantastic Legends & Stories Tour takes you on a journey back in time. The Volcanoes & Geological History Tour gives you an insight into the earth’s systems. On the Enjoyment & Culture Tour, you can look forward to culinary and cultural highlights whilst the Water Worlds Tour takes you through the vast river and lake landscapes. It’s up to you which routes you choose.
The Oberpfälzer Radl-Welt has great infrastructure for cyclists. You’ll find plenty of e-bike charging stations, clear signposting, free bike maps, and certified, cyclist-friendly accommodation that know how to make a cyclist happy when they stop off for a break or overnight stay. You can look forward to a beautiful cycling adventure that will stay with you for many years to come.
The approximately 500-kilometer round starts in Weiden in the Upper Palatinate, which you can also reach by train. The charming old town with its winding streets can be wonderfully explored on a city tour. From here the route takes you north along the Waldnaab river, the path rising steadily. You can quench your thirst in the Brauhaus Floss - the rustic parlor and the idyllic beer garden invite you to take a short break.

The third stage starts with a beautiful section through the idyllic river landscapes along the Regen River. From there the route leads you through shady forest to Burglengenfeld with its castle complex. It continues along the Naab to Schwandorf. The city not only offers you a picturesque market square with nice cafés, but also the historic rock cellars, the largest of their kind in Bavaria.
On the fifth day you start in Weiden and for the first few kilometers you follow the same path along the Waldnaab that you already know from stage 1. At Neustadt an der Waldnaab, this time you don't turn east, but continue to cycle north on the river bank. You pass the lovely St. Anna Church, which invites you to dismount and pause.
On the sixth stage you have a few meters of altitude ahead of you, but you will be rewarded with fascinating views. Starting from Tirschenreuth, you cycle through a colorful cultural landscape and smaller forests. You follow the very well developed Vizinalbahnradweg, which brings you directly to the border with the Czech Republic. At an altitude of almost 800 meters you drive through quiet forest areas, but you also come across great views again and again.
Right at the beginning of the seventh stage, there is a demanding climb: From Waldsassen you step up to Kappl on shady forest paths. Above you will find the unique Trinity Church, which stands like a landed UFO in the landscape. After a visit, you leave the towers of the church behind you and cycle to Konnersreuth. If you are a flower and garden fan, then a detour to the picturesque Reslgarten is worthwhile.
The third and last stage of the Zoigl & Fisch adventure world starts in Bad Neualbenreuth and initially leads you past the Sibyllenbad spa park. Not far from the Czech border you cycle into the valley of the Wondreb, which accompanies you to Waldsassen. The city is known for its monastery and its magnificent baroque buildings - many souvenir photos are inevitable here.
On the second stage, the Wald & Täler adventure world lives up to its name: From Waldsassen you walk along the banks of the Wondreb and you follow its course to Themedreuth. There you keep right and cycle south through quiet forest. You will pass the moor pond in the Waldnaabau adventure world, which is an important habitat for insects and amphibians.
Enjoyment and culture await you on the second stage as well: After a night in the city of Pfreimd, you start out along the river of the same name. The idyllic valley is a Natura 2000 protected area and an important habitat for beavers and otters. The first cultural highlight of this day awaits you in Trausnitz, where you can visit the castle complex.
The third is also the shortest stage in the world of enjoyment and culture - so you can start the day in a relaxed manner. Starting from Vohenstrauß, you follow the bike path on the railway embankment through the hilly landscape. You cycle along streams and past ponds to Floß, where you can try a delicious beer brewed from regional ingredients in the brewery of the same name.
