Looking back on 2020, there was clearly one thing missing from your MTB calendar this year – trips to distant lands. You didn’t go trail hunting in Whistler or ride your fat tyres through jungles in Thailand. You didn’t ride over the sandy hills of Israel or through the endless expanses of Utah. But, what held you back? Staying at home opened up a new realm of possibilities. All of a sudden, your own backyard became a mountain bike paradise as you hunted for new routes and stretches of forest. Pedaling along technical trails in the lowlands, crossing streams, and following steep paths to rubble heaps in the heart of the city – you can discover a lot of adventure close to home.

Shimano is looking for the best MTB Tours outside of your front door. Show us your favourite routes, take some photos, and bring us on your Tour. We will choose the ten most exciting Tours and include them in a ‘Best of’ Collection – ‘The trail on your doorstep’. The ten winners will receive a free subscription to komoot Premium for one year. In addition, all winners will be entered into a raffle to win a DEORE XT M8100 groupset worth £900!

So hop on your bike and discover adventure on your doorstep. Don’t forget that we also want to be there. It couldn’t be easier to take part in our challenge:
- Register on Shimano with your email address (the same one you use for komoot) and you will unlock a free region on the app.
- Follow the Shimano profile on komoot
- Go on Tour
- At the end of your Tour, upload the best photos and tag Shimano as a participant.
- Alternatively, you can choose a Tour you’ve already completed and tag Shimano.

We already sent our athletes ahead – not participating in this challenge, of course. From Scotland to the Alps, Spain to Poland, and Sweden to France – across Europe, they got on their bikes and warmed up trails in their home country.

Obviously, if you live in the Highlands or on the edge of the Alps, you don't have to worry too much about trail quality. But, even in these places, our athletes discovered corners, paths, and trails that they had overlooked for years.

That’s what we’re all about: pausing and looking at your home turf in a new light. With your eyes wide open, the dump becomes a training centre for steep climbs, an old dirt road becomes a muddy trail after rain that demands all your skills, the forgotten campsite in the neighboring village becomes a stopover on your bikepacking trip, and the next hill is the perfect place for a sunrise ride.

This Tour was planned as a film shoot but unfortunately as we neared the top, the weather came in.

This is a round trip version of Ben Ledi up via Stand Glen and back down through Stank Glen.

It extends the descent by quite a bit, and is more 'raw' than the tourist trail of going directly up and down

Ridden in one go, this Tour on the edge of the Scottish Highlands is a long, challenging gravel bike adventure that will keep you on the road for a whole day. But, if that's too much for you, you can easily break it up into smaller rides. The ‘Southern Loop’, which is almost 33 kilometres (20.5 miles

What could be nicer than getting on your bike after work and letting the day fade away on a relaxed, enjoyable tour? That is exactly what we asked Guido Tschugg, which is why he sent us this relaxed tour through the landscape of the beautiful Eggstätt-Hemhofer lake district northwest of Chiemsee. Mirror

Dave Spielmann, mountain bike guide from the Engadine, takes us on one of his absolute favorite tours: the Bernina Express. The short tour is wonderfully varied and inspires you with many partly natural, partly laid out single trails, stony hiking trails and gentle flow trails. At the top of the Bernina

Mary Moncorgé brought us two routes. This tour is a leisurely weekend round - even if you get up late, you will be back home in the afternoon. It starts in L'Escarène - a very typical, idyllic French mountain village. There are a few houses, a church and a bakery here. And that's exactly where you can

Mary Moncorgé's second tour is not exactly an everyday weekend excursion - it is her training program for the Transvésubienne race. 85 kilometers and 3,500 vertical meters, almost the entire route of narrow, steep single trails - that needs to be properly prepared.

And so she put together a route at home

Pro mountain biker David Cachon shows us one of the most unreal landscapes in Spain: The Bardenas Reales. His tour takes you through the rocky semi-desert in the autonomous region of Navarre, high up in the north of Spain. You start at the small reservoir Embalse del Ferial on a gravel road that takes

Starting in the heart of Edinburgh, this Tour proves two things: you can have fun at home and you don't need a car to reach the trails. The Tour begins with a relaxed warm-up through the streets of Edinburgh and into the southern outskirts of the city, reaching the greenery of Hillend Country Park. Next
