Wild rivers, mysterious moors, colourful blooming meadows and an impressive backdrop of jagged mountains – the Ammergau Alps Nature Park is a true idyll on the edge of the Upper Bavarian Alps. With flat cycle paths through the Ammertal valley and challenging MTB routes in the Ammergau Alps, the region is perfect for exploring on two wheels, no matter what kind of bike you prefer. You can even enjoy a ‘bike & hike’ Tour which combines pedalling with a last push to the top of a mountain on foot. In this Collection, we’ve put together nine great adventures in the Ammergau Alps. You’re sure to find the right adventure for you.

Located in the very south of Germany, around 100 kilometres (62 miles) southwest of Munich, the Ammergau Alps are surrounded by other famous holiday destinations such as Garmisch-Partenkirchen and the Zugspitze to the southeast and the fairytale Neuschwanstein castle to the west.

Whether you travel by car or choose to arrive by train, the more sustainable option, the nature park is easy to reach. You can already leave behind the stress of everyday life on the journey there. When you arrive, the enchanting mountains with their varied landscape as well as a special gift await. If you stay more than three nights in the region, you receive a half-day ticket for the Bikepark Oberammergau as a present. Here, you find endless well-kept trails and tunnels. That’s not all that is free-of-charge. You can also use the ‘Königscard’ electronic guest card on regional buses and DB-region trains within the Ammergau Alps, making it even more convenient to leave your car at home.

If our ‘bike & hike’ adventures inspire you to explore even more of the mountains on foot then check out great hikes through the nature park, here: komoot.de/collection/1041393. The Ammergau Alps really is a true paradise, both on foot and on two wheels.

If you love nature and wonderful mountain panoramas, then this varied bike tour is just right for you. In addition to the route itself, it also offers all sorts of highlights, because you not only cycle through the Ammergau Alps Nature Park, but also pass great places, such as the Oberammergau Passion Play, the Ettal Benedictine Abbey or Linderhof Palace. In addition to these cultural highlights, you will always find offers for your physical well-being.The tour leads on a well-developed bike path through the beautiful Graswang valley. Through the directly adjacent nature reserve Weidmoos and Pulvermoos you will experience a rare and untouched flora and fauna.Your bike tour begins in Unterammergau. You leave the original location towards the north to join the course of the Ammer immediately afterwards. On this beautiful river you roll relaxed and framed by the picturesque mountain panorama to Oberammergau. Shortly afterwards you leave the Ammer, because you turn into the wonderful landscape of the Ettaler Moos. Now the path becomes slowly but steadily steeper until you stand in the middle of the Ammer Mountains. The effort is rewarded with a breathtaking view of the mountains. The nice thing is: From now on it's only going downhill, with a few very short exceptions. At the beautiful Linderhof Palace you have already done almost half of your tour. You will come back to Gertrudiskapelle via a few forest paths. Afterwards you take a direct course to the unique Ettal Abbey. Here you can take a look around and treat yourself to a tasting in the brewery and / or distillery. Winged you now join the Ammer again, which accompanies you to Oberammergau. From here you take the cycle path that takes you directly back to Unterammergau.

On this beautiful bike tour, of course, you don't ride your bike directly through the moor, but the name of the route says it all, because you explore some small and large moor areas in and around the Ammergau Alps. With the two towns of Bad Kohlgrub and Bad Bayersoien, there are even two pretty prominent moorland health resorts on the route. The tour is very varied and offers numerous natural highlights with the moors, the Staffelsee and the Ammer. Above all, this includes the Ammerbruch, which, however, requires a very short hike.At the Bad Kohlgrub train station, your tour begins with a very small ascent out of the village, followed by a nice descent where the wind blows through your hair. You drive into an idyllic forest and set course for the Staffelsee. After you have passed Uffing am Staffelsee, you can take a dip at the Ach bathing area. Immediately afterwards you work up a sweat again, because a small ascent challenges you. But even here the reward is not long in coming, because a short time later you can see the Gasthof Lieberwirth in Schöffau, where you can fill up your energy reserves for the rest of the tour.It goes on: You follow beautiful paths along various small rivers and pass the Bayersoier See, on whose southern bank not only the "Fischerhäusl" invites you to stop. Here you can also take a dip in the cool water of the idyllic moor lake. You will now come back to Bad Kohlgrub through the beautiful Geizenmoos. You can now end the round here or drive the second loop that leads you southwest of the village to the Ammer. A detour on foot to the famous Ammer Gorge on the Scheibum is a real highlight, so it is definitely worth cycling for a while.

Small tour, really big: Although it is only around 25 kilometers long, you will collect an incredible number of unforgettable impressions and experiences along the way. The beautiful views and the wonderful paths through nature provide plenty of variety. There are also a few real highlights for the palate along the way!Your tour begins in the original Altenau with a short descent to and over the Ammer. Immediately afterwards, a steady and longer climb begins. If you need a break in between, then the forester's lodge Unterogg or the small swimming area at the bridge are ideal shortly afterwards. Then it goes into the deep forest, which clears every now and then and reveals the view of colorful blooming meadows.

If you see the picturesque Wieskirche in front of you, then you have already made half of the tour. Take the time here to take a closer look at this impressive building and let yourself be drawn into the contemplative atmosphere of this place. Then it goes on very relaxed and you dive back into an idyllic forest. At the end of this a longer climb awaits you: The Königsstraße leads you - always along the Lähnbach - a few meters upwards.

Once at the top, pure enjoyment awaits you for the rest of the tour: after you've conquered this ascent, it's almost all downhill to the finish. So you can run your bike, let the wind blow around your nose and enjoy the fabulous nature around you. Although you have already driven this section on the way there, coming from the opposite direction you will experience it again from a completely new perspective and you will definitely discover one or the other nice highlight for yourself.

This tour through the Ammergebirge nature reserve is not short of experiences, highlights and natural spectacles. It is a challenge and a fulfillment at the same time. Two considerable climbs await you on the 65 kilometers, but also many beautiful places to relax and enjoy, such as the eponymous Plansee. With the magnificent view of the Kofel, the tour starts with a real highlight. But the first meters of altitude are also waiting for you right at the beginning. Accompanied by the beautiful mountain panorama, the initially moderate ascent is totally enjoyable and always accompanied by wonderful views. The perfect gravel road rounds off this first section of the tour. Now the descent through the Ammerwald lies ahead of you, which you really deserved after the first ascent. The Plansee is your next stopover and a great place for a break. Rested and strengthened, the descent leads along the Neidernach and thus parallel to the border between Germany and Austria to Griesen, where the Neidernach flows into the Loisach, which you also follow. Enjoy the gentle descent here again, because there is a lot waiting for you. A climb begins in Ochsenhütte that is tough again. At the highest point of the tour you can celebrate the challenge you have passed with a magnificent view of the mountains. Now the relaxed descent back to Oberammergau is just waiting for you, where you can end the tour in peace.

On this idyllic and varied round there are many highlights that you can discover and one highest point that has to be climbed. The Enningalm round takes you deep into the breathtaking nature of the Ammergebirge nature reserve. The beautiful landscape in the midst of the impressive mountains makes this round a delightful and unforgettable tour.It starts right at the Ettaler Mühle. So you can be sure that the delicious reward in the inn of the same name will be ready when you return. First, the route leads you to the Ettal monastery, which not only offers a very impressive sight (and with its brewery and distillery has one or two temptations ready), but also has a long history. You can find out more about these on site. From this cultural highlight you drive into beautiful nature. The path leads through a small forest right along the Gießenbach. The Mühlberg towers on your left and after you've driven through the original village of Oberau, the climb up to the Enningalm begins.Every now and then you have to pedal a little harder to move forward. Slowly, but steadily, you pedal up, piece by piece, past the Reschberg meadows and magical mountain panoramas. Many highlights make you forget your exertion quickly. When you arrive at the Enningalm at the latest, you will know that it was worth the effort. Enjoy the time up there, which you can crown with a refreshment in the small dining room. Rested and strengthened, the descent back to the Ettaler Mühle awaits you, which leads you directly through nature over beautiful small paths. When you arrive at your destination, you can review your experiences over a delicious meal.

On this varied tour, as the name suggests, you drive once completely around the Trauchberg. Due to the various climbs and short and long descents, this tour is very entertaining and also offers wonderful views of the mountains of the Ammergau Alps.We start in the cozy village of Altenau. You leave the place and join the half-hammer. Just like the river itself, you meander through the beautiful forest. A couple of times you cross the half-hammer, then your paths part. You have already completed the first vertical meters - but there will be a few more over the next four kilometers. A small overpass then marks the highest point. Your reward is a short but fast descent.Around half of the tour is done. A beautiful mountain panorama opens up in front of you, which you can enjoy extensively for a while. This sight becomes even more beautiful when the Alpe Wasserscheide-Krottenstein fits perfectly into the scenery. On the fast descent you will now join a flowing body of water again: the hallech. This leads you to the place of the same name. Immediately afterwards you dive back into the breathtaking wilderness of the nature park and with it the last major ascent of the day begins. Due to the varied route, you can do this in no time at all. The great views do the rest and before you know it, you'll roll into Altenau with a smile on your face.

The Soila-Alm is one of the most beautiful places in the entire area of the Ammergau Alps. This short tour "for in between" offers you an ideal opportunity to explore it. Nevertheless, there are some highlights waiting for you on just twelve kilometers.

It starts on the outskirts of Oberammergau. There is not much time to warm up your leg muscles, because the ascent up to the Soila Alm is not long in coming. But time is guaranteed to fly by, because you will always be delighted with great panoramas. A deep forest provides shade and variety, while you pedal further up the easy-to-drive forest road.

Then you have already reached the Soila Alm and can treat yourself and your legs to a rest. The view and the culinary offer at the hut are the perfect reward. But you should definitely drive a little further to the Soiersee. Because here peace and seclusion provide the icing on the cake for relaxation. Then you can make your way back down. The descent is fun and takes you quickly back to Oberammergau.

"Short and sweet" - that describes this hike perfectly. After you've parked your bike (tour to get there by bike: komoot.de/tour/269611061), things get straight to the point. You make your way over a steep path towards the two peaks of Friederspitz and Frieder. The path is mostly steep, but has a very good surface. A sunrise on one of the two peaks is particularly recommended. At the beginning you run straight up a bit. After a short time you will reach numerous hairpin bends that wind up the mountain. Maybe you will count how many you have already done? The Frieder-Alm marks roughly half of your ascent. Now it is time to bundle all your strength for the last few meters. When you arrive at Friederspitz, you know: the effort was worth it! The view is really outstanding. Enjoy it for a while before you set out on the easy-going path to the Frieder summit. Don't forget to take a souvenir photo when you get to the top.

A great team: You ride your mountain bike out into the mountains, whose steep paths you can then discover on foot. On the first part of this beautiful expedition you collect a few kilometers and meters in altitude on the bike. At the turning point of the route you park your bike and conquer the summit on foot.Your tour starts at a small parking lot near Graswang. Almost exactly where the Elmaubach flows into the Linder, you join the fresh mountain stream and follow its course upstream. With the Kuchelbach you will soon cross another small watercourse that comes from where you still want to go: from the Kreuzspitze and its neighbors, the Kuchelbergkopf and the Kuchelbergspitze.Since the path is not too steep, you can make good progress. After a little serpentine you know that you will soon have made the first part. Only one kilometer separates you from the place where the ascent on foot begins:

As is well known, all good things come in threes. In this case: three peaks. On this hike you button up the Kuchelbergspitze, the Kreuzspitze and the Kuchelbergkopf and you will be rewarded three times with magnificent views of the Ammergau Alps. After your arrival by bike (you can find the tour here: komoot.de/tour/269553253), your ascent begins with a couple of jagged serpentines. The ascent is no longer as moderate as on a bike, but you also want to go all the way up and it is easy to master on foot. On the way you dive deeper and deeper into the beautiful mountains, which gives you extra wings. After about four kilometers you are on the high trail and head for your first destination, the Kuchelbergspitze. After extensive looking and marveling, you go back the Höhenweg, but don't turn back onto the path down, but continue walking towards the Kreuzspitze. On the way you will also pass the Kuchelbergkopf. Once at the top, a breathtaking view awaits you, which you should enjoy in peace before you make your way back. Satisfied, you finally hike back to your bike, with which you then roll back to the parking lot, completely relaxed and overjoyed.
