The region of Vogtland in southwest Saxony showcases some of the finest nature in Germany. Here, you will find the Vogtland Panorama Trail, which stretches for 240 kilometres (149 miles) through the beautiful scenery. You can hike the 12 stage adventure in one go or in individual stages, to compose your very own nature’s symphony. In this Collection, you can be inspired by the 12 official stages which reveal the most spectacular nature and charming towns in the Vogtland.
Whether you are a fearless mountain explorer or a leisurely-paced hiker, you can take on this circular adventure with a little training. The route is very flexible and can be divided as you wish. The stages are between nine and 33 kilometres (5.5 and 20.5 miles) long and can be easily shortened. Starting at the Göltzschtal Bridge, the biggest brick bridge in the world, you hike through the entire Vogtland region.
Following the Köhlersteig path, you hike through the Swiss Vogtland towards Thuringian Vogtland, passing the town of Plauen in the west. You explore the legendary Burgstein region and the Pirk and Oelsnitz dams before reaching the Saxon spa towns of Bad Elster and Bad Brambach.
After a detour in the Czech Republic, you walk via Markneukirchen, Erlbach and Klingenthal to the 936-metre-high (3,070 feet) Aschberg mountain, the highest point on the trail. You follow in the footsteps of German space travel history as you arrive in Morgenröthe-Rautenkranz, the hometown of the first German in space, Sigmund Jähn. A short step later, you can enjoy a cool blonde beer in the hoppy town of Wernesgrün. Finally, you head to the towns of Rodewisch, Lengenfeld and Maylau, which has an imposing castle, before completing the circular back at Göltzschtalbrücke bridge.

Depending on where you spent the night, today you will first make your way to Breitenfeld or start the tour there. In front of the Waldbad von Breitenfeld you start to climb directly uphill. And neatly, but the following piece along the Hirschmühlenteich allows you to find your breath again.

On its final stages, the Vogtland Panorama Weg will take you high up again. But that sounds more exhausting than it really is. At least on stage 10 there are no great differences in altitude. But it is really quiet and natural here. And you can get very close to the sky and the stars if you want to…
