Battlefield thirsts for calm -
Ford blurs in the water.
Human feet enliven the ground.Probably a MUST in the Harz Mountains, the Brocken. Even if the view is usually poor and you freeze miserably. When the big main routes come together, the jostling begins. But not to romp with the jostling customers at the ticket office. Almost as if food is being distributed. A challenge when hiking in autumn, the drinks get so cold. Who wants to drink ice-cold water from a bottle when you're struggling with the cold anyway?
Expressways are the new death strip -
a tree is strangled.
Exhausting, thinks life.A remarkable tour on the 'Green Belt' / 'Harzer Grenzweg'. Great karst landscape, many caves in and water holes. In places it reminded me of the Buckowseerinne in Barnim.
While walking across the former death strip (cover picture) at a point that is now cut through by an expressway with fences that are secure on both sides, I only really realized how lucky we were in 1989. The 'uprising' against the SED went off without much bloodshed and suffering. Today we go hiking from 'East' to 'West' and everything without bloodshed. But for most of the Ossis this limit was by far not as bad as the situation of the concentration camp prisoners and slave laborers around here.
It's amazing what hiking can do to you ;-)

Metal stretches to the fence -
Blood colors the earth.
Tears scream with happiness. It's nice that there are places like this where you can experience the past. The border museum is unfortunately closed outside of the main season.
Damp snout seeks food -
Concrete and granite outlast human lives.
Silence rustles.Nice forest stage on the Green Belt. We stayed on the post path at the beginning of the tour, but this is growing too. Somehow you still come for a long time and currently only with wet feet. At the same time, however, there is also a hiking trail on the border. Finally, we drove to the border nature trail, which is also worthwhile.
Green fluff in autumn
covers infinite suffering.
Landscape slowly sags towards the sky.Small round on the Harzer Grenzweg / Green Belt. Autumn mood, green fields, paved paths. The remnants of the Ellrich-Juliushütte subcamp reveal the sheer luxury in which we live.WoMo is at the rifle house.
